Every child care provider or program operates as an independent small business and determines their own rates for child care services. Be sure to ask each of the providers you interview about their specific rates and if they offer any discounts or sliding scale fees based on household income. This was survey conducted by the NYS Office of Children & Family Services and the results are based upon the providers/programs who respond to the survey.
Many parents may be able to receive additional help with child care costs as employee benefits. Dependent care accounts offer employees the option to have money set aside from their gross salary in a nontaxable spending account which can be used to pay for child care. Neither the employer nor the employee pays taxes on the amount of salary set aside for child care so the employee is able to pay for child care expenses with tax free dollars.
