Will use again..Had always used online tax services but this year things looked grim due to a new business and other things. Wallace E Dunn services saved us and did an amazing job. I've used Wally for seven years now. My wife uses him now too for her business taxes. I met him in person for our first meeting and recommend you do the same if you can (if not, no biggie, it just helps). Now I just do it all electronically--I send them a bunch of PDFs of my W2, etc., and they email me a work order. I pay them, and then governments pay me (usually).
Taxes are about more than saving money. Wally represented me when the IRS screwed something up and got me out of an erroneous $2000 bill that happened after some SNAFU with a retirement account.

I have worked with Wally for several years and he is awesome. As my husband and I transitioned into independent contracting, he broke down the new complex filing process very well and set up estimated payments for the following year. I received a delay on my taxes, but paid some amount to the IRS so decided to go here to finish filing. I talked to one of the tax preparers there, and I was to get one delayed document to her, which I did. This person did call me within a couple of days of my contact to tell me I probably owed nothing, so not to worry about a tax penalty. But did not feel my tax situation was handled with attentiveness nor care to detail.

I typically do my own taxes, but this year I wanted to get a professional's attention. I actually completed a draft return before I sought Wally's help to confirm I got it right.
Wally sent me a tax return with double the required payment. A quick review of the 1040 showed he made two big errors on two separate forms, and I couldn't figure out where he even came up with those numbers. I didn't receive an apology or a "this never happens." The second return he gave me corrected one error, but not the second. Finally, Wally gave me a return that was in the ballpark

I used this service for a couple years but I'm finding someone new this year. I did not use Wally, but rather one of his staff. It was fine, but she clearly did not know much about taxes other than filling in the boxes. I told her I was planning to get married the next year, and she gave me some blatantly false information about how this would affect my and my fiance's returns. She also was not aware of media coverage about upcoming changes in the tax law, which is worrisome if that is your industry. In short, I think they are probably just fine if you have easy taxes and it's either

Called yesterday and got an appointment with Wendy today. Couldn't have been more happy with her professionalism and her service. I did a test Turbotax run and Wendy helped me get over a K more then I would have gotten with Turbotax.
But the main reason I will come back here every year is how they truly care about each customer. If you are in the Lincoln Park area this place is a must for your tax returns. Very convenient location right of Diversey and Clark

Hands down five stars for the following reasons:
1. I used Wally and his team for personal tax services while living in Chicago during 2009 and 2010. Each time they were impressive and their service exceeded my expectations. Clearly worth the money.
2. I was audited by the IRS about 2 weeks ago for the 2010 period. Note, I now live in NYC and have not talked to Wally and/or his team since 2010. However, upon calling Wally he personally handled my IRS inquiry for no charge. Wally made my life easy, a total pro.

I just started using Wally to do my business taxes this past year and so far I couldn't have asked for more! The entire staff is super friendly and even though Wally is ridiculously busy and working 18 hour days he still takes the time and is patient enough to sit down and answer my questions and help explain things I don't understand.
If you are looking for an affordable accountant that is friendly and will take the stress out of filing taxes for you then I HIGHLY recommend going to see Wally and his excellent staff.

This place is great. I have been doing my taxes here since 2001.
The staff is very professional and clearly has a lot of experience in accounting.
The price is just marginally higher than the Turbotax so you basically save yourself a couple hours of work. My appointments never been longer than half an hour.
Plus you support a local business.

I have been doing my taxes here all my working life and must say that Wally and Wendy rock! They are reasonably priced and know their stuff. Most importantly, they remember you and make you feel like family. This is no H & R Block. They are consummate but warm professionals. I would not trust anyone else with my taxes.
