SLEW Cancer Wellness Center provides free emotional and physical support to meet the needs of low income, uninsured and under-insured women recovering from cancer treatments. SLEW's primary goal is to improve both the length of survival rate and quality of life for disadvantaged women as they recover from the traumatic effects of a cancer diagnosis and treatment.
Services
The SLEW Cancer Wellness Center provides survivorship/aftercare services at no cost for financially qualified women. These services improve the quality of life for uninsured, under insured, and low income women recovering from and undergoing surgery, chemotherapy, and/or radiation treatment for cancer.
At SLEW Cancer Wellness Center, we are proud to have received the following recognition for our contributions to the San Antonio community. SLEW Cancer Wellness Center staff, clients, and friends are thrilled that Olga Young has been recognized for her years of service to the community and for establishing the Center - Congratulations Olga! Check out both videos below of the award presentation.
Here, we have stories about three different strong women, who we helped during really hard times. Patricia first heard of SLEW Cancer Wellness Center from her Case Manager at Family Services. The case manager called us while Patricia was still in his office and told us he had a Katrina evacuee with breast cancer that needed a variety of services and because she was not from here didn't know where to go.
Giving your time, talent, and treasure would mean the world to a cancer patient who has no place else to turn. If you want to know how you can help or have any questions, please call us at 210-654-7900.
17) Grabbers/reacher tools (many patients with lymphedema have trouble raising their arms due to swelling, so a grabber would help them get things from cabinets and shelves, or those with mobility problems could use them to pick things up from the ground, etc.)20 Many clients use public transportation, so we could also use bags and/or wheels/carts so they can manage carrying home the items received at SLEW.
