SJL was one of the first five firms in Ohio selected in the early fifties to furnish design services to the State of Ohio when they initiated their policy of contracting with Consultants. One of the first projects undertaken upon formation of our firm in 1952 (then known as Shaffer, Parrett & Associates) was the planning and construction of the Ohio Turnpike, in the Wauseon area.

This was a joint venture known as General Industries, Inc. Today SJL continues to provide quality engineering services for numerous Counties and Cities in the State of Ohio. Mr. Purdy has 28 years of surveying experience and has surveyed or reviewed the topographic and centerline of right of way establishment of over 120 roadway and bridge rehabilitation/replacement projects while he has served in our Wooster office. His experience includes topographic surveys, boundary surveys, ALTA surveys, construction staking, easement preparation, metes and bounds description preparation, plat preparation and right-of-way plans.
Performed topographic and boundary surveying, as well as engineering services for the civil site, work for the removal, relocation, and reconstruction of a Pizza Hut restaurant on a one-acre parcel on a thoroughfare in Mansfield, Ohio.

We prepared the demolition plan, grading plan, erosion control plan, utility plan, sanitary sewer and water line connections, notes and details, checked building structure plans and submitted them to the City of Mansfield Building and Codes Department for review and approval.
This project is located at Mansfield Lahm Municipal Airport, Areas "A", "B" and "C" in City of Mansfield. Provided engineering and surveying services for removal of existing airport storm sewers, replacement and expansion of same with 12,000' of storm sewers, 76 catch basins and three manholes. Project estimated construction cost was $1,400,000.
This project improved 306' of Lower Leesville Road (T.R.13) over the Sandusky River west of Leesville in Crawford County. The project included replacing the existing single span steel pony truss with a new 103' composite steel plate girder with a 24' wide reinforced concrete deck on concrete abutments based on spread footings on rock.
Boat Ramp and Boarding Dock project located at Clear Fork Reservoir Marina near Lexington, Ohio. We provided surveying and engineering design services for the removal of the existing boat ramp and replacement with a three-lane boat launching ramp separated by floating boarding docks. The project also involved checking of shop drawings and coordination with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.
