It's a decent complex compared to the rest of Barstow, but be prepared to pay a lot of money for it. The apartments look nice, and have some decent amenities, unfortunately you can tell with a close look that the clean look is mostly a veneer on questionable construction.
Even worse, they'll gouge you for everything they can. They tried to increase my rent by OVER $150 when it came time for renewal. Every other rental company I've dealt with is happy to discuss rent increases and come to an agreement that works for both parties (at least, if you've been a good tenant). But this place... Wow. It

I have been living at the Barstonian for 3 years now. I drove around all over the high desert upon my arrival from Florida trying to find a good community. This is by far, the best landscaped rental property in the high desert that I've found and it's pretty much the reason why I've stayed. I can look outside of my living room and bedroom windows and see tall pine trees engulfing the property along with well manicured golf course style grass every where with a gated swimming pool in the center of the community. The apartment is ok for Barstow, but way overpriced. I was out of town for the long holiday weekend recently and didn't get my rent check in by the 3d of the month, BIG MISTAKE. Now I have to pay a $75 late fee and it has to be with a money order, no personal check allowed since I was a day late with the rent. Don't rent from them if you can avoid it.
