I'm Jon McGlothlin, certified welder repair technician & owner of Mountain States Welder Repair, LLC. If you've had a welder repaired in Grand Junction over the last several years, I was likely the guy who did the job. I was an employee of Western States Welder Repair for five years. Welder repair is unique and challenging work.
It is different because welding machines are engine mechanical systems, electrical generation systems, and electronic computer systems all rolled up in one piece of equipment. Thus they require a diverse knowledge base to repair them. I handle each of these widely differing systems with an understanding of how these systems must interact to make the machine function correctly.

Mountain States Welder Repair, LLC is not responsible for your repair results. If you are not comfortable performing any of the checks and repairs written here, do not attempt them. Also, if you are not genuinely familiar with the use of a Digital Volt Ohm Meter (DVOM) do not attempt the sections of these tips that require one.

We do keep an inventory of parts for the machines that come in for repair. Due to the large diversity of makes and models of welders out there, we cannot stock parts for all. But, since we are a certified repair facility for Lincoln, Miller, ESAB, Hypertherm & all of the Victor welding products; we do have the ability to order in parts and get it right most of the time.
Armature Bearing Replacement = $1300, includes machining armature and replacing oil seals. Mini-restoration = $3600, Includes dip and bake generator, Sandblast and Powder Coat, Armature bearing upgrade, Re-wire Complete. Complete Restoration = $8000, includes all in Mini -restore plus a compete F162/F163 engine rebuild.
This is the Load Bank machine used to test your welder both to help identify a problem, and to be sure the welder will perform properly before we give it back to you after a repair. We can work on some of the OLD welders that are still working for you. We are finding parts more difficult to find, though, so be sure to call us before bringing in your elder statesman.
