Greenlight Optics was established in 2009. The company has since grown to become one of the most respected and sought after companies for optical system design and manufacturing services. Greenlight Optics builds on the legacy of US Precision Lens (USPL), a Cincinnati company that grew from making watch crystals to becoming a world leader in projection lenses and plastic optics.
Many of Greenlight Optics employees worked together at US Precision Lens, which later was named Corning Precision Lens and 3M Precision Optics. Here, we developed first-hand knowledge and experience around design, development and manufacturing of cost-competitive precision optical systems. At USPL, we also developed an appreciation for, and now strive to create, a culture marked by respect for the individual and putting customers first.

Todd Rutherford has 20+ years of experience working in wide ranging areas of optical science. Prior to co-founding Greenlight Optics LLC, he worked as a product development manager with 3M. In that capacity, he was responsible for systems engineering and lead customer support for the world's first Mobile Projection light engine.
Equipped with advanced design and simulation software, our experienced optical engineers and scientists create world class imaging and illumination optical designs. Greenlight engineers are skilled in projection lens and camera lens optical design. Using Zemax and other modeling and simulation tools, the designers create optical designs that achieve high resolution and are manufacture-able.
A good optical design is just the start. Our engineers are skilled in tolerance analysis, stray light analysis, optics material selection, design for manufacturing, and opto-mechanical alignment and testing. Modeling the optical system performance across a range of working temperatures ensures that systems will perform as required.
Combining precision with ease of fabrication and assembly, our mechanical engineers create prototype and production product designs, as well as a variety of tooling and assembly fixtures. Utilizing SolidWorks and CREO software, Greenlight's mechanical engineers turn computer optical designs into real products.
For the last two decades, our engineers have been on the forefront of developing new products based on high brightness LEDs, lasers, sensors, detectors, and advanced microdisplays. With experience and success integrating LEDs, lasers, sensors and microdisplays into numerous commercial products, Greenlight is very often recommended as a preferred design house partner for many leading opto-electronic component suppliers.
