He received his electronics training in the US NAVY'S Nuclear Power Program. He served twelve years as a Nuclear Electronics Technician on submarines. He operated, maintained, and repaired electronics equipment which controlled the reactor plant. After the Navy he went to technical school and worked for an electrical contractor.
In 1997 he became a Master Electrician and started his own business (DR Electric). In 2001, he became interested in alternative energy. Alternative energy appealed to him because of the more technical aspects of the work and the benefits it provides to the environment. In 2006, he received his NABCEP certification, at that time he was only 1 of 4 in the entire state to be certified for solar installations.
