Sakowitz counseling was founded by Dr. Michael Sakowitz in 1976 and he has been providing psychotherapy and psychological assessments to Passaic, Morris, and Bergen counties ever since. As his practice grew, other associates joined and currently there are over 15 associates working within the practice, making it one of the largest psychotherapy practices in the area.
All therapists hold either a masters or doctoral degree, as well as being licensed by the state of New Jersey. When calling Sakowitz Counseling, you will be greeted by a member of our warm and friendly office staff. Each is knowledgeable regarding insurance and scheduling issues and with kindness and compassion, will answer any questions and strive to meet the needs of each individual. Our goal is to meet the needs of every client that calls and our office staff works hard to meet this goal.
Sakowitz Counseling is a multi-disciplinary, multi-specialty group of counselors. We provide a broad range of clinical services as well as Corporate Wellness and Employee Assistance Programming. Interpersonal skills training, manager coaching and professional supervision of Social Workers and Psychologists is also available.
We have been active in the bariatric and weight loss community for over 10 years and in that time have become the largest provider of pre-surgical bariatric psychological evaluations in New Jersey and one of the largest in the nation. We evaluate approximately 2,000 patients per year and work with over 30 bariatric surgeons.
Our bariatric psychology team is led by Dr. Michael Sakowitz and Dr. James Glynn who between them have conducted over 15,000 pre-surgical bariatric psychological evaluations. As a result, they are among the leading providers of pre-surgical bariatric evaluations in New Jersey. Their experience also extends to leading support groups, writing articles, conducting presentations, and being consultants on a number of hospital bariatric teams.
