Elmer & Son Locksmiths began in 1941 in what was originally the home that Elmer and his family lived in. We are still located in the exact same spot, and just like the times have changed so have we. The house was eventually converted into a modern locksmithing business, complete with a 1200 square foot showroom where we have over 50 new and used safes on display, along with commercial and decorative lock hardware.
The original storefront was converted into the only museum in the region dedicated to locks and safes. We have become the security hardware center for the Chicago Southland and Northwest Indiana communities. Our customers include residential, commercial, and industrial. We are proud distributors for some of the top manufacturers in the security industry.

ESL is a distributor of Mesker hollow metal material. Mesker, known as the company who invented the hollow metal door has been an industry leader for more than 150 years. Their material meets or exceeds all Steel Door Institute (SDI) and architectural design specifications. We stock many different door and frame sizes for your convenience, and also carry a supply of pre-welded frames for quick lead times.
We have found that most people interested in purchasing a safe have no idea that there is such a wide range to choose from. These are designed to do one thing, protect the contents from burning up in case of a fire. In most cases this is paper which burns at about 450o, so most are rated at 350o for a specified amount of time.

Bought a car remote. The key that comes with it is blank. Asked if I can bring it in to be cut to the original remote and key. They said no. Must buy their remote and they'll cut the key. Ridiculous !!! $ 80 for remote and $ 37 to cut the key. Bought 2 remotes $ 77 and they cut the keys each at $ 5. Never again will do business with this place, ripoffs !!!! A lot of places that will do business with me.

My father's business does not advertise 24/7 service , however that IS what they provide! Old school customer service is extremely rare these days and I WILL pay more for it! I still feel one star is completely appropriate because your business is not what is was 40 years ago. You're free to disagree, as am I, but I will not return nor will I change the one star rating. It's ashame, because you used to provide excellent customer service; not anymore.
