Our culture of excellence along with our employee ownership program attracts some of the industry's most talented and dedicated team members. Cheney Brand is the president, CEO and an owner of SunBug Solar. He has spent his career pursuing innovation and entrepreneurship, developing methodologies to design and roll out new products, acquire competitors, and form joint ventures.

In 1990 he founded Brand Software, Inc., where he served as its president and chairman of the board and grew the company from a startup to the market leader in behavioral health office management, and by 1999 negotiated its sale to VantageMed, Inc. Immediately prior to SunBug, Cheney worked for groSolar, a Vermont based solar PV and thermal installer and distributor with operations across the U.S. and Canada.
Services
SunBug is a full-service local solar energy company offering consultation, system design, financing options and the highest quality turnkey installations in Massachusetts. Now is the time for Massachusetts homeowners to take advantage of some of the nations best solar incentives to start making their own affordable, renewable power.
SunBug Solar works with home owners, businesses, and non-profit organizations across the Bay State. With offices in Woburn MA and Westfield MA, we provide our hallmark quality design and installation services statewide, from Boston to the Berkshires. Founded in Somerville, our headquarters are currently located in Woburn.
SunBug's customer service team delivers a variety of corrective maintenance, preventive maintenance, and specialty solar-related services for residences, nonprofit organizations, houses of worship, and businesses across Massachusetts.

The primary focus of our certified licensed service electricians is on the care and well-being of SunBug's own installed customer base of solar PV energy systems, but increasingly we're called upon to support the service needs of installations performed by other solar companies who are either out of business, no longer operating within Massachusetts, or who are otherwise unavailable to fulfill the solar service needs of their customers.
We have forged lasting relationships with multiple product suppliers, financing partners, and key regulatory bodies. Amicus Solar Cooperative was founded in 2011 with the mission of supporting independent solar energy businesses working to create a market solution to climate change.

This innovative member-owned collaborative is comprised of quality solar installation companies who benefit from collaboration by reduced customer acquisition costs, streamlined project financing, and drastically improved operational efficiencies.SunBug is a member of an Elite Network of contractors selected to provide Pearl Certification on solar systems.
The Amicus Solar Cooperative was formed in 2011 by a group of solar energy providers with a revolutionary plan to better serve their customers. Dedicated to the mission of offsetting carbon emissions and giving customers agency over their energy production, Amicus members are mission-driven, vision-aligned businesses, working to bring the solar revolution to energy consumers across the nation.

I chose SunBug Solar in the fall of 2017 to put in a 7.26KWp system. It is now 2022 and we have had zero issues with the system and are about to break even with a lifetime energy of 42MWh, the US and Mass Tax breaks, and SREC-II incentives. The sales rep, Chris Miller, at Sunbug was more than professional, and the mechanical and electrical installers were friendly and accommodating. They handled the permitting and overall, I am happy with the system, but I had two concerns to share. Tl;DR: don't let any installer do the outside electrical if there is a chance of rain. Insist on postponing

I talked to absolutely every one about a solar panel installation. I easily spent months on researching the topic, vendors, and installation techniques. Ultimately I settled on on a mechanically mounted system for my flat roof, which was wonderful.

Some vendors would not touch a flat roof. Some only installed ballasted systems. Some vendors assumed that they could use a lift to get onto my roof when they actually needed a crane. Some just wanted to overcharge me with the hot new technology, sweeping the nation. After reviewing multiple bids, I settled on Sunbug to install my system.

I usually don't write reviews since I don't have the time for it. But I wanted to take time to write this one because SunBug Solar is that kind of company.
First of all, these guys are amazing, top-notch people from sales, to administration to installation. Second, the process was smooth as it can be; they prepared all the paperwork, inspection and etc. One could sign everything remotely through DocuSign. Lastly, the people and workmanship. I had quotes from other solar installers and quite pushy sales person who didn't know a lot about solar panels (had to go back and ask the

My system had some problems when it was first started up, but SunBug stayed on top of it, and kept me updated with what they were doing to diagnose and fix, as well as plan B and C. Fortunately, it was fairly easily resolved, and my system is up and running smoothly.

SunBug was a great company to work with. They came back with several different proposals and discussed different options. They seemed more than happy to get the right capacity vs cost that I was looking for. After installation I ran into one issue with a faulty component and they were there the next day to replace it. They handled the whole process from design to permitting to application to installation to service. I found the team to be very responsive. The system has functioned better than I thought it would (installed in June 2015).
