In 1977, John Martin Associates, Architects was founded on the principle that understanding and trust between the client and architect form the basis for accomplishing a successful building project. To this end, listening is the most important thing we do. We involve the client as an active partner in the design process; we evaluate and expand his ideas; and we design to solve unique problems.
Consequently, we consider each project on its own merits. Its design solution is born from an understanding of the client's particular needs, site conditions, architectural aesthetics, materials, building technology and economic realities. The success of this philosophy is evidenced by the large number of repeat clients we have served over the years.

This cabin renovation and addition is an example of the firm's approach to environmentally conscious design. The cabin did not have access to basic utilities such as water and electricity. The renovation provided these amenities while an addition was built using reclaimed building materials, most of which were found on or near the site.
Based on a strong client relationship, Fairview Farms' clubhouse was originally designed to accept one or more additions if the course and restaurant became successful. This turned out to be a smart decision as, to date, the clubhouse has recieved 3 additions to the original building, all designed by JMA.
Hortico's headquarters are the result of a close relationship between the flower company and JMA Architects. The relationship has allowed the company's facilities to grow in steps, with the business. The three rounds of additions to the building were conceived during the initial client meetings and thankfully, the company and its headquarters grew together.
