Services
The Seppanen family has long enjoyed traveling and visiting small family wineries. Those travels have taken us to wineries from Florida to Washington and Maine to California, as well as Germany, France, Italy, Portugal, Hungary, Slovenia, Austria, Poland, Quebec, Australia, and New Zealand. In particular we have visited many Midwest wineries in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, and Nebraska.
Garvin Heights Vineyards produces wine from cold climate grapes that we grow on our five acre vineyard located on the bluff above the city of Winona, Minnesota on the Mississippi River. We also purchase grapes from growers in both Minnesota and Wisconsin located in the Upper Mississippi River Valley American Viticulture Area.
GHV Frontenac Rose is made from the Frontenac grape released by the University of Minnesota in 1996. The grapes were pressed before the skins could color the wine leaving a light pink color but retaining Frontenac's distinctive cherry aroma. We are temporary sold out of this favorite. Enjoy this slightly sweet wine chilled with casual foods such as hamburgers, pizza, or cheeses.
We make two fruit wines with 100% fruit juice, two blended fruit/grape wine, and several flavored grape wines. They are all special, so visit the winery to try them all or order online. Our Red Raspberry wine has been an instant favorite with a pleasant berry aroma from its 100% fruit base. Winner of a Silver Medal at the 2010 International Cold Climate Grape Competition.
Our blends of cold climate grape varieties carry the St. Urho label named for the patron saint of the Finish vineyard industry. Urho is pronounced like "Errrrh-hoe" with a long trill of the R to represent his strength. His feast is celebrated by wearing the colors Royal Purple and Nile Green. St. Urho is nearly always represented with grapes and grasshoppers as part of the picture.

We came upon this winery by accident 11 years ago on our Anniversary visit to La Crosse. When we visited again this year, this winery was a must to visit again!
The owners are friendly, knowledgeable and helpful!
The wines and the views are amazing!
We will be back, hopefully sooner than 11 years ☺️

My husband and I went for a tasting and brought our two kiddos along (we were on a weekend trip). The staff (a mother-daughter pair, I think?) were SO kind and accommodating. We felt welcome and at ease, which is always a joy when you have kiddos along. The wine was delicious and we left with two bottles. Thank you!

My husband and I stopped here over night with a Harvest Host recommendation. We were treated wonderfully. We arrived close to closing tie. We were able to sit out on the back deck and sample wine. The wine was good, but not anything fabulous. Unfortunately, we have been spoiled on some Napa wines. The setting was beautiful. My husband was pleasantly surprised with the views, as he had never been to MN. Garvin Heights is definitely a place to visit while in Winona, MN

To be safe, I wouldn't buy food here unfortunately. But otherwise we had a lovely time and 5 wines for $5 wine tastings is an excellent price! We took a bottle of the GHV Marquette Rosé home! Great patio view & quiet.
Food backstory: We bought the maple bacon smoked sausage and some pepper jack cheese from what we were told was a local dairy farm-Mertz I think it was called....while it was delicious, we're not sure which caused it but I began to feel sick once we sat on the patio. By the time I had the trifecta in the bathroom & ready to curl up in our car to continue on our

Just an FYI for individuals planning an event.... my friend was involved in setting up and preparing for a bridal shower at the vineyard last Saturday. They were not allowed to begin setting up until 1030 and the shower was at 1100 (a 1015 setup was refused by management). At the end of event they had to gather and remove garbage and TAKE IT WITH THEM!! Shower ended at 2 and everyone had to be gone by 230 otherwise an extra charge. I assume this establishment are so busy that being accommodating for promotion of business is not a goal/need

Stopped here during the Veteran's Day weekend on a tour of wineries along the Minnesota and Wisconsin sides of the Mississippi.
ENVIRONMENT: Crowded and small tasting bar. Interior tables crowded together; gift items for sale on the periphery. I felt like we were in a school cafeteria. Perhaps the outside would have been worth a sit but we couldn't bring ourselves to buy a glass of wine.
WINE/FOOD: Nothing of note, especially for the price.
COST: Comparatively expensive for the offering. Save yourself money and get a four buck chuck (Charles Shaw). Or buy a bottle for those

My beautiful bride, some friends and I visited Garvin Heights Vineyard as part of a Wine Tour I put together for her birthday weekend. We were driving to the vineyard from the SW so it kind of snuck up on us even though "Cecile" (my GPS) was cautioning me that we were nearing our "destination on the right." The parking was a little strange, but I honestly can't say that I would have organized it any differently or better given their location on the hill. Unless they moved the entire tasting house, certainly not something I am sure they are considering any time soon.
