S.J. Smith is a third-generation, family-owned company that has been in operation since 1950. At that time, our founder, Sylvester "S.J." Smith, left his job as a welding and gas salesman for AIRCO. Together with his wife, Helen, they started selling safety and welding supplies and servicing smaller customers in the region, while AIRCO continued to sell welding supplies and services to larger industrial accounts in the area.
S.J. Smith has 12 locations to serve you, including a corporate office and sales in Davenport, and branch locations in Iowa, Illinois and Missouri, staffed by highly trained professionals who can assist you in finding the equipment and supplies you need.

Needed a ground cable for my Lincoln welder. Tonya was very nice up at the desk. But the fact that I can’t get a fully made ground cable for my Lincoln welder from a Lincoln dealer says something. They hooked me up with some cable and a clamp. Couldn’t even get me eyelets for the cable. I asked is there a certain cable that we can order for the welder via the model but nope all they can give me is cable and a clamp. I even emailed pictures of my welder into them the day before and told them I would be in the next day
