Services
Since its inception in 1997, Joe Procopio served as the principal of Sun Valley High School, with Telleny Gilliam recently taking over when he retired. Telleny Gilliam has been with SVHS since 1998. A team of highly-committed, consistent individuals has provided a unique sense of purpose and continuity to Sun Valley's campus.
Sun Valley offers a comprehensive education for all students. When you view our course catalog, you will notice that a wide variety of art and elective courses exist in addition to our extensive math, science, history, and English departments. We believe that this menu provides a well-rounded education for our students.
Sun Valley High School makes available special education and related services to all students. It is the philosophy of The Leona Group and Sun Valley that all children can learn, regardless of disability. Our teachers are trained to teach to diverse learning styles and ability levels. Sun Valley believes in close collaboration between staff, general education teachers, special education teachers, and parents.
Sun Valley provides an SEI program for our English Language Learners. These ELL students spend 2 hours/day in a Writing/Grammar course and 2 hours/day in a Reading/Vocabulary class with a certified ELL teacher. All of our teachers are endorsed in Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) and attend professional development sessions throughout the year to help strengthen teaching methods and improve instruction for all students.
Sun Valley is committed to ensuring that all students have a written college and career plan when they graduate. To this end, all parents and students are encouraged to use SVHS's College & Career Center located in Room 11D. The center's advisors provide students with key college information.
From arranging college visits, to determining a college major, to filling out an online FAFSA form, to searching and applying for scholarships, advisors ensure that all college-bound graduates have access to important information.Ms. Navarro manages career services in the center, helping students find jobs, providing career aptitude testing, and coordinating paid and unpaid internships.

I went to this school for about 3 weeks as a student, I was working at walmart and Mr P. Thought I was ditching school. I was leaving early to go to work I got kicked out because of that and now its hard for me to get into any other schools because Mr P. withdrew me. The staff here is horrible but the crazy english teacher I liked her

Absolutely the worst school I have ever dealt with!! Mr. P, Silvia, Lydia, Roxanne, and the staff are good people but the way that place is ran is ridiculous. Don't expect ANYTHING from the staff or the teachers as far as correspondence in academic progress with your child. No discipline, direction, or help. NOTHING! My kids spiraled down when they started going there. They do not supervise the kids in any way whatsoever, they just lay out the curriculum and the rest is on the children. If your kid fails they don't let you know. If your kid is breaking policy or leaves class without permission

When I started going there I went to the night program (that is no longer available) but really benefited me because I worked during the day. I dropped out for 1 year and returned as a single mom and was benefited from the Certified Nursing Assistant program they (still currently have). I graduated in 2013 and am now assisting college and working myself to pursue an RN. This school gave me the base to start a carrier and I will always be very grateful and thankful to all the teachers and staff that showed me their support even when I thought school was no longer a possibility for me.
