Services
Steve is a University of Illinois graduate Civil Engineer with concentrations in structures and construction. He spent over two decades in on-site supervision and management in the construction industry. In 1991 he founded HomeSpec Corporation and has since been dedicated to serving the community with his experience and knowledge through providing home inspections & consulting with clients regarding building and construction issues.
We do residential home inspections for buyers that typically take place during a real estate transaction. We also do presale inspections for sellers. In fact we encourage it! Being able to see issues in the home while we talk about them is very important. The onsite inspection takes roughly 3-4 hours for most homes, although the time varies significantly depending on the size and age of the house.
We have inspected literally thousands of homes of all types, sizes, ages, and prices. In most every house we have found multiple issues such as improper construction, damaged components or systems, mechanical and electrical problems, unreasonable safety risks, hazardous conditions, moisture problems, leaks, and neglected maintenance.

Jared inspected a property that I was intending to buy (which I did purchase, in the end), he was incredibly nice, professional, detail-oriented, and patient with all of the questions I had about the property. I'd highly recommend HomeSpec and Jared Wilson if you ever need a property inspected! The inspection report was sent to me very quickly after the inspection took place, and its details aligned perfectly with and expanded upon what Jared had told me during the inspection itself.

I had the pleasure of having Jared do my home inspection today. This is the second home I’ve bought and Jared’s inspection was much more thorough than my other home. He spent the time to educate me on things that were found and left no stone unturned. Any uncertainty I had with purchasing the home was put to rest and I left feeling confident and more knowledgeable. Jared was able to change his schedule to accommodate the inspection on the date and time I wanted. He drove 80 minutes to the site. He explained all the defects of the house to me on site as he inspected them ( for 3 hours). The report was emailed to me few hours after that. In the summary section of the report he listed all the defects that will cost more than 1000$ to fix, and all the safety related issues. I'm happy with the service.

Jared came back out to our home after a plumbing issue came up soon after closing. He explained his process thoroughly and indicated exactly what he saw during inspection. Even though it would have been extremely difficult to find this issue during inspection he still offered to pay for our plumbing to take care of it. Sincere 5 star review

I called Jared when the inspector we usually used was booked out further than I wanted. He doesn't have an answering service, but called me back quickly when I left a voicemail. Appointment was scheduled much faster. We met this morning, I got there right on time for the appointment and he had beat me there. He was very professional and did an excellent job. My wife and I used HomeSpec twice in 2015-2016 as we were preparing to buy our present home. The first residence inspection HomeSpec provided helped us make a very good decision to pull our offer on one property, as the inspection revealed some significant issues concerning the foundation and water problems in the basement area. The second inspection allowed us to confidently offer and purchase our current home. Steve and Jared are excellent inspectors and what we appreciated the most is they "told it like it was." Steve and Jared went above and beyond the usual home inspection. I went along for the inspection and learned so much about general home repair. I felt prepared to go on the home owning endeavor after seeing every nook and cranny throughout the house. They also inspected the septic, and even took a look at the outbuildings even though it wasn't in the contract. I cannot thank Steve and Jared enough for their kindness and willingness to prepare me as a future homeowner. As a home buyer, you will not be disappointed by their services.
