My professional journey began with my graduation from the University of Texas at Arlington in 1991 with a degree in Accounting. Soon after graduation, I landed a paid internship at Terry Hansen & Associates, a small accounting firm in Arlington, Texas. My boss and mentor, Terry Hansen had a degree in Economics and previous experience in a wide variety of professions, including stock-broker and bank auditor as well as twenty years as a CPA.
He had bragging rights (and was sure to let me know) that he had passed all four parts of the CPA exam on the first try, a feat that was only accomplished (at the time) by approximately 2% of CPA candidates. After I had finished my required internship, I was also able to pass all four sections of the CPA exam on the first try and I was licensed as a CPA by the State of Texas in 1995.
