The Oregon Academy of Ophthalmology is the non-profit professional association of eye physicians and surgeons (Eye MDs) dedicated to providing quality eye care to all Oregonians. Your Eye MDs (ophthalmologists) have completed extensive medical and surgical training, and can help you understand your eye health concerns.

As an organization, the Oregon Academy of Ophthalmology advocates on state and national levels to obtain the best vision care possible. Our mission is to provide our members with services that promote and strengthen quality medical and surgical eye care in Oregon. Our website is designed to provide you with information on eye health care and where to find a local Eye MD to help you make informed decisions about your eye care.

The Oregon Academy of Ophthalmology is a professional association of eye physicians and surgeons who specialize in the medical and surgical treatment of eye diseases and other conditions, and also provide vision care services.

The Oregon Academy provides continuing medical education and information for its members, offers educational opportunities for ophthalmic staff, participates in public service projects, and represents its members with the State Legislature, the Oregon Congressional Delegation and government agencies.The Oregon Academy's mission is to provide our members with services which promote and strengthen quality medical eye care in Oregon.
The American Academy of Ophthalmology recommends timely vision and eye health screening for the detection and early treatment of eye problems in children and adults. Certain infectious, congenital and hereditary eye diseases may be present at birth or develop later in life. Eye examinations by an ophthalmologist (a medical doctor who specializes in medical and surgical eye care) are very important for the continued health of your eyes.
An ophthalmologist - Eye M.D. - is a medical or osteopathic doctor who specializes in eye and vision care. Ophthalmologists differ from optometrists and opticians in their levels of training and in what they can diagnose and treat. As a medical doctor who has completed college and at least eight years of additional medical training, an ophthalmologist is licensed to practice medicine and surgery.
Oregon law requires most health insurers to cover early refills of your prescription eye drops for glaucoma. Medicare also requires insurers to allow refills of glaucoma eye drops at reasonable intervals. We are providing a document here, for you to be able to download and print. If your pharmacist questions whether your insurance covers an early refill of your eye drop prescription, you can show them this document.
More than 70% of ophthalmologists in Oregon belong to the Oregon Academy of Ophthalmology. Education: Sponsoring continuing medical education and annual scientific meetings, which also offer sessions for ophthalmic technicians and office staff. Legislative Representation: Representing Oregon ophthalmologists in state government affairs.
