Our mission as a nonprofit preschool is to provide local children with a community-centered, play-based curriculum that facilitates kindergarten readiness and promotes lifelong learning, in a nurturing and safe school environment. You can always get on the waiting list while still potty-training so you are closer to getting in when your child is ready!
Services
Founded in 1979, Humboldt Educare Preschool has served generations of Humboldt County children and families. We even have Educare alumni who have brought their own children! Anywhere you go, if you ask around, you probably know someone who has attended Humboldt Educare. Originally located at Equinox School on Union St, Educare moved to Pacific Union Elementary in 2003, and on to our new site on Frank Martin Court in 2017.
It is a little known fact that Humboldt Educare is the only non-state-run nonprofit preschool in Humboldt County. We are governed by a four to nine member Board of Directors. Board members can include current or past parents, as well as community members who are interested in the value of a play based preschool program.
All three of my kids (and my two nephews) went to Educare and we loved the teachers, the directors, and the play based philosophy of the program. My kids were loved and thoughtfully cared for by everyone who worked there. My 2 girls went to Educare. I couldn't have asked for a better experience! Loving, wonderful teachers.
We like to give kids as many chances to express themselves as possible, so we offer chances to draw, paint, cut, glue, print, sing, play instruments, and dance each day. During the first 5 years of life, the most important things we can do for children's development of language skills are reading and storytelling.
We strive to arrange at least one field trip each quarter (four per school year), and to have either a field trip or a classroom visitor once a month. Some of our favorites are revisited each year (like the pumpkin patch), and other times we like to try something completely new. Check out the gallery below to see some of the many trips and visits we've had.

Both of my daughters have gone to Humboldt Educare, and have had wonderful experiences there. I always felt confident that my girls were well cared for both physically and emotionally, with teachers that truly engaged with them. They learned valuable social skills and were provided with a wonderful curriculum to learn about the world around them. My girls are fortunate to have started their school experience in a program like Humboldt Educare!
