In 2004, Carla Myers purchased the martial arts studio where she was previously a student. She renamed it Myers Kenpo Karate Academy; and for over a decade, she has been serving the Lafayette and West Lafayette community helping hundreds of children, teenagers and adults to develop confidence, respect, focus, concentration, physical fitness and other unique benefits of martial arts education.

As instructors we make a commitment to our community: We do whatever it takes to help each student become successful not only in martial arts, but also "achieving their black belt and beyond" in every area of life. Our martial system is a blending of two practical and robust arts: Ed Parker's American Kenpo and Gracie Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Services
Popularized by Edmund K. Parker, Sr, one of the true pioneers of Karate in the United States and was the first to create a truly American system of Karate, Ed Parker's American Kenpo is a modern edition of the art known for employing up to date scientific principles not utilized by many other systems.
Here at Myers' Kenpo Jiu-Jitsu Academy we focus on teaching our students practical self-defense daily. Students gain confidence from learning how to protect themselves. Students are taught philosophies on healthy lifestyles, leadership skills, and virtues that build character. All students are encouraged to support one another.
Are you ready to continue your Kenpo training, but are unable to find an instructor in your area? Myers Kenpo Jiu-Jitsu Academy can help! We are currently offering virtual class packages. You will have the opportunity to participate in virtual classes and/or private instruction depending on the package you choose.
Here at Myers Kenpo Jiu-Jitsu Academy we enjoy building relationships with our clients, starting things off with 2 private lessons. We will give you / your child a free lesson and details about memberships and tuition. In our first introductory class the student will be taught some basic moves, along with basic etiquette.

Great experience for my son and family. Sifu Myers is professional, patient, kind and flexible. She has been amazing and worked with our family during the COVID-19 pandemic. She has offered virtual classes that kept her students engaged and given them something to look forward to during times of uncertainty. Absolutely recommend this dojo!

Carla is an excellent teacher, my son has learned a lot of karate skills in a short period of time. I particularly like her emphasis on kindness, self-control and respect. As well as the importance of standing up for yourself and others. I would definitely recommend this martials arts school.

The atmosphere and energy of this martial arts school is exactly what our family was looking for. I have beginner older teen and he was made to feel welcome, and is enjoying the new groups as well as the thoroughness of the instruction. Really glad we followed the other reviews and chose this Dojo! Thank you!

Ms. Myers in a wonderful instructor with insight and dedication to the Art of Kenpo. You'll learn more about yourself and your body in one class than you ever dreamed. You'll be challenged while maintaining respect for your pace. Ms. Myers will repeat very often that Kenpo is not a race. Training will develop confidence in yourself as well as precision in your technique. American Kenpo is good for all ages. I highly recommend training here!

My daughter has been at Myers for over a year now. She is a special needs individual. She and Sifu hit it off very quickly and that was enough for me. i am 52 and now take private lessons so just shows your never too old. it is a great way to get exercise and learn to defend yourself at the same time. Our Sifu is an excellent instructor offering adaptable training where needed. I have had the pleasure of watching the students learn and grow while gaining self confidence.

I began training with Sifu Carla Myers exactly one year ago. I'd been wanting to learn karate (having no prior martial arts training) for quite a while but I was nervous. I mean, I had NO idea how the instructors and fellow students would react to a 32-year-old beginner! When I finally found the nerve to walk in the dojo door I was immediately impressed. Everyone was very welcoming and patient. I didn't realize that adults are beginners ALL the time! The curriculum is tailored around my pace and comfort level, while remaining challenging and rigorous. Kenpo changed my life. I was depressed before
