NEW YORK JUNGLE SALON was founded in 1993 by the husband and wife duo, Basil & Maria Konstantinidis. Maria began as a stylist in her mother's salon, Effie's Place; the beauty of nature enchanted her and inspired her bohemian and free-flowing artistic style.
Basil previously did hair in Atlanta, Georgia; he was fascinated by the abundance of diversity in the city and used his passion for the rich culture of metropolitan life to inspire his own ever-changing style of artistry in hair.Together, the couple set off in pursuit of finding an artistic balance between their two creative aptitudes.

I am a stylist, business owner, peer, mentor, educator and a proud artist in my profession for 35 years. I can honestly say that although being a co-owner of mine and my husband's businesses comes with endless responsibilities, I still feel as if I don't work! I thrive in my artistry on a daily basis and fulfill my desires of making my clients feel confident, beautiful and happy every time they visit NY Jungle.
I always believed that getting your hair done should "be an experience." Besides leaving with gorgeous hair your mind should feel rejuvenated as well. If just for a few hours someone could forget about their worries, relax, enjoy themselves, and leave a better version of themselves, then I have achieved my goal.
Everyone has their dream job; whether it is to become a lawyer, teacher, doctor, or any other profession. My dream job was always to become a hairdresser. Even from when I was only five years old, I used to love cutting my sister's bangs. Then I was fifteen and I started giving my first haircuts to my friends.
Some people know their path from childhood, I on the other hand, discovered this industry only after studying English Literature at Marist College. At 21, I was unsure of where life would take me, but it wasn't long until I discovered I could transfer my creativity from written word to locks of hair.

So very happy with the way Mary gives a manicure and pedicure. When she starts, she is cleans the nails well, files smoothly and evenly, and trims any ragged cuticles. Mary always makes a joke about cutting too much which she’s never done. She’s very careful and neat when polishing and makes my nails look great.

The staff is very pleasant and welcoming. Maria listens and gives the results you are looking for with style and color. She explains what is best for your hair and the details of the process to bring your hair color into balance. Maria is such a nice and sincere professional. She keeps very current with her industry. Everyone in the salon follows all of the necessary standards for Covid 19 prevention. It is always a great experience!

I had a cut & style with Elmira. Nothing but great experience. I have fine, straight hair. My usual experience is a stylist does a great job, I love the look, and an hour later it’s the same, flat, meh hair I started with... just shorter. This time, at the end of the night, my hair looked great. Yes,, straighter/flatter than it started out, but still has style and looks cute. My next cut will definitely be here, and with Elmira.
