About 8 in 10 of us will experience back or neck pain at some point in our lives, and for some it can be severe, debilitating and reoccurring. It's our body's core, after all. So when the muscles and nerves near the spine are pinched, pulled or twisted, the pain and discomfort can make it difficult to get up - let alone work and do the things we love.
Neck pain is extremely common; one in three people will experience neck pain this year, and for many people, the pain will go away on its own. However, others may experience continued pain and disability long after the initial injury or onset of pain. Often there is no clear "why" for your neck pain-studies have shown that neck pain, like back pain, is not necessarily caused by the arthritis or herniated disc shown on your X-ray or MRI.
Hip and knee replacement surgeries are some of the most common operations performed in the U.S., with about 1 million completed each year. And each one of these patients share one thing in common: their desire to get back to the level of work, play and function they enjoyed before first experiencing joint pain.
According to the World Health Organization it is estimated that at almost half of the adult population has had at least one headache in the past year. At least 30% of those affected by headaches report having a migraine. Headaches can be debilitating, leading to lost days at work and with family. As people search for answers, they often find themselves in physical therapy.
Shoulder pain can happen for a variety of reasons. You may have just injured your shoulder-you fell or you lifted something too heavy. Perhaps your shoulder pain has been coming on gradually over months or years; you might have a job that requires you to use your arms a lot or you play a sport that requires a lot of throwing.
