Ione Hotel
Serving Gold Country since the early 1850's, the Ione Hotel is an icon of the wild days of the Gold Rush of 1849. The hotel was built to house miners and serve as a stagecoach depot for supplies and everyday commerce. Founded before the gold rush, Ione is a town rich with history. In 1910, following a fire, the hotel was reconstructed as a single block and brick structure and named the Golden Star of Ione.

It served as a hotel, restaurant and saloon until 1988 when another fire destroyed the building. After a year and a half of extensive renovations, including a beautiful mahogany staircase and many beautiful mahogany accents, the hotel is once again serving guests. We invite you to step back in time to experience the charm and serenity of the early 1900's.

We really enjoyed the quaint atmosphere and delicious food at the restaurant. As a side event, there was a man playing popular older tunes at the piano. We had a great time and definitely recommend it. One star off because the waiter was not masked. The room was well ventilated and doors were open but we'll be back after the pandemic.

I can't believe this place only has 3 stars! It's awesome! Old building in downtown Ione- every room is uniquely decorated and completely old school! The entry walkway is beautiful! The stair case going up to the rooms is one you'd want to slide down as a kid! Restaurants and shops all at your convenience!! Even the magazine on the desk in the room is from 1987!!

Have not spent the night yet here but hopefully in the future. I did eat at the restaurant and it was fantastic! There is a well inside that you can look down. I had the spicy chicken sandwich which I recommend my friend had veggie omelet with potato hash. If you are ever in the area or are passing through you have to stop and eat here. Friendly staff and atmosphere is to a T.

We have been twice! It was great each time. Service is friendly and food is so much more than comforting. Try the blackened salmon or beef burgandy.

Great paranormal experience! iPhones vibrating for no reason, the door tried to open on its own but it was locked, an hour later I was awoken to keys jingling inside the room and near the bed but I refused to roll over and look!

It was a quiet evening on New Year's Day after 8 PM in the restaurant. Luckily, my friend and I were happy to learn that the restaurant was still open. The young lady that served us did a fine job and even another lady came by to ask us if everything was alright, so that was nice. My friend had the Pasta Primavera, and I had the Grilled Chicken over a bed of spinach, along with a salad, fries, and mixed vegetables. It was really good...I ate everything on my plate! Their bread was rather tasty as well.

This old hotel is really charming. I'm pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere. The beds aren't the best, but the restaurant and bar downstairs with friendly staff and live music more than make up for it.

The flavor of the food was passable, if not decent, but the service was a bit rough. Some lady kept belching behind us, but I can't blame the restaurant for that. I suppose that comes with the territory here. I had to keep asking for water and basic supplements like Parmesan for my spaghetti had to be requested. I wasn't impressed, but I wasn't insulted. I hope they improve.

Thought we'd try this place because of the history. I ordered clam chowder and pasta with meat sauce.
The clam chowder had an excess of hot sauce in it.
The pasta came with a blob of sauce in the middle. Pasta was cold and chewy. I sent it back to get heated . It came back in a smaller bowl but it was hot. This time the pasta was raw. Decided not to try again cuz I was afraid of what might come back. If you go, stick to a sandwich. But, if you order fries, bring your own catsup. The waiter couldn't seem to find any.
I would say go look inside but eat elsewhere.

I can't speak for the hotel but my boyfriend and I went here for a romantic dinner and was extremely disappointed. First I ordered a Bloody Mary it tasted like tomato soup. The waitress came up and saw I was dissatisfied with it and asked if I wanted to send it back which I did. We then ordered dinner. We got a pasta and a salad. I could've made better food at home the noodles were extremely under cooked we took a few bites and couldn't eat any more. The salad was nothing special. The waitress was very kind and tried to help. I wouldn't go back.

Definitely think the place was overpriced for the quality of the room. Unfortunately we had to stop in town on a road trip and it was late so our selection of places was limited.

The guy at the counter was very friendly. The parking behind the hotel was a little confusing as well. The rooms were definitely outdated and very small. The bathroom was cool, the toilet had one of the hanging chains you pull to flush which was fun. But it flushed so loud!

Supposedly this place is haunted? Whatever, I slept great!

A very rustic location. It reminds me of many other turn of the century hotels I have stayed in over the years. The beds were worn but the pillows were fantastic. Old fashioned toilet and unique decorations throughout. The manager ended up putting 4 of us in one room after I had ordered 2 rooms. This is not the owners fault but the water tastes awful
BRING YOUR OWN DRINKING WATER. Modern tv and cable in the room.

I'm a big fan of horror and paranormal stuff. So needless to say, I was pretty excited to stay here especially after reading articles about the legend of this hotel and the stories that came with it. Unfortunately, with the exception of a few unusual noises, I can't say that I actually had witnessed anything. Bummer. But overall, I liked staying here for the ambiance and the history. Everything had a very aged and authentic feel. If you keep that in mind ahead of time about this place then you won't be setting yourself up for disappointment, as the point of this hotel is its

Stayed here over Thanksgiving and had the hotel mostly for myself-- the manager was friendly and accommodating, a super nice guy.. The room ran a little cold ("cold spot"? ooooo!) and if the famous supernatural residents were present, they didn't seem to care much about me. The room was clean, in good condition, and charming. (One recommendation I would give is that they upgrade the bedspread to a duvet to help with the cold situation!)

Overall, a lovely stay in a friendly temporary home-- which matched the very friendly town

Stayed in the bridal suite. The room itself was themed really well. The claw foot tub was big enough ti fit me. I'm very tall so it was a pleasant surprise. Large shower big enough for two and then some.

The downside to the room was the heat. Unbearably warm. No AC in the room at all. There was a fan that we used in the doorway to pull cooler air in from the hallway. If it's going to be hot you'll probably want to stay elsewhere.
