Hamilton Tax Services was founded by attorney Paul J. Coelus to fill the gap between certified public accountants (CPAs) and chain tax preparers. CPAs provide quality service, but their fees are out of reach for many individuals and small businesses. It's no surprise that many people, and most businesses, don't like to do their own taxes. The tax laws are complex and confusing, and mistakes can result in substantial penalties and interest. We prepare federal income tax returns and state returns for all 42 jurisdictions (including the District of Columbia) that have a state income tax.
Most states also participate, allowing you to e-file your federal and state returns simultaneously. E-filing is not sending your return to the IRS by fax or email, or by uploading it to the IRS website (none of which are allowed). An individual taxpayer cannot directly e-file with the IRS; it must be done through an Electronic Return Originator (such as Hamilton) or other authorized e-file provider.
Many financial decisions have tax implications, and you should understand them well in advance in order to make intelligent choices. When we prepare your income tax return, we'll offer observations and suggestions on the tax issues raised in the return. We're also available for more complex tax planning, whether or not we prepare your annual returns.
If the IRS notifies you of a planned audit, don't panic. Most returns selected for audit are selected randomly, or by an automated program based on certain levels or combinations of income and deductions. Selection for audit does not mean the IRS believes there's something wrong with your particular return.
