On going training and equipment upgrades keep us current and your repairs done right! Two of our techs have Bachelor's degrees and two have Associates Degrees in Automotive Technology.
In 1994, Kit Johnson and his wife, Viola, hung out their shingle and started to live a life long dream: running a self made, self employed business. J4 Automotive is named for the four Johnsons: Kit, Vi, and their two daughters, Nikita and Kacy. The business was started in their garage at home until Kit and Vi were able to arrange financing with the SBA, Valley Bank and a family friend.
Your vehicle's owner's manual has an entire section devoted to maintaining your vehicle with preventative maintenance. Their recommendations are not to be taken lightly. If you want 200,000 miles or more from your vehicle then we strongly recommend you follow these service recommendations. In Montana (like most areas of the country) we fall in the Severe Service category for maintenance intervals, so be sure to use that chart.

Ryan was especially helpful in doing some diagnostics on my vehicle prior to me handing the keys over. It turns out I didn't have an issue after all. He even went out of his way to check under the hood for anything out of the ordinary. Oh and it was cold outside and he stood outside and checked instead of making me wait for them to take it inside.

Fabulous people! I needed to get a pre-purchase inspection on a car that I was buying ASAP!! I was started to loose hope that any mechanic wasn't 2 weeks out but I called these guys and they were able to take me THAT DAY! They were so sweet and gave me a full 12 page print out all about this car that I was going to buy! If I lived in Helena, I would 100% use this mechanic and these guys, I so highly recommend them!

I had all positive experiences at J4 automotive until recently. I was quoted $700 dollars for a front break job which after calling several other businesses in Helena I soon found was a giant rip off. I was also supposed to get tires here and my appointment needed to be rescheduled because they didn’t come in yet, I came in for the rescheduled appointment only to find out they still didn’t have my tires. I was supposed to hear from them once they got my tires but it’s been weeks and I haven’t heard from then since.

This business is top notch. From the time you make an appointment to paying. Our first encounter with J4 was about 3 yrs ago. They gave us a second opinion on an F150 issue. Helena Motors wanted to charge 1200.00 and J4 charged around 400.00 That is quite a difference for the same repairs. We have not used anyone else's services. The place is clean and the workers super nice.

Kit, Chris, and all the guys at J4 Automotive in East Helena did a great job! I dropped off our 06’ Expedition that had been sitting for almost 2 years! I told them to go through the vehicle, front to back because we were going to give it to our daughter to drive for school. I told them that I wanted to make sure she would be safe while driving it! Kit, Chris, and the guys in the shop took that info to heart! They went through everything on the vehicle!! We got the vehicle back and it runs, sounds, and drives awesomely!! Better than it ever has, actually!! Thank You guys for a job well done!

We were getting our motor home ready for a weekend at Rockin' the Rivers. When I checked the lights we didn't have signals or brake lights. This was not good as we had our tickets and campsite already paid for. I drove to J4 and asked if they could take a look at the problem. Gena told me to bring it in so I did. Chris called about an hour or so later and said his technician had found a blown fuse but still no brake lights. I told Chris that the rear trailer towing receptacle had broken and I bagged it and zip tied it to the vehicle. They took a look at that and found that wires had crossed
