All of us need help from time to time to see ourselves more clearly, and to develop new ways of living fuller, richer lives. Psychotherapy is effective -- that's been consistently proven by solid research. Put therapy to work for you, using my expertise, integrity, warmth, humor, and straightforward approach.

My focus in psychotherapy is on helping you improve how you perceive and navigate life's challenges, transitions, and relationships - with yourself, and with others. Our work together can help you develop new skills to create the life you want; enhance your relationships, friendships, or career; and move yourself toward greater abundance, authenticity, resilience, and depth.
Services
Psychotherapy is most effective when you feel an authentic connection with your therapist. Sometimes, knowing about your therapist's training and experience helps you with beginning that connection, so here's some information that might be helpful. Of course, if you have additional questions, please feel free to ask.
On the way to finding and creating vibrant, successful relationships, too many of us end up tangled in the same old patterns, tripped up by relationship habits that get in our way whether we "know better" or not. We're on autopilot, and the navigation system is not only mis-wired, it's operating in stealth mode.
Like most experienced psychologists and psychotherapists in DC, I don't take insurance directly. Patients pay me, and then file for reimbursement from their health insurance. Nearly all of my patients file for reimbursement, and the vast majority are reimbursed 50-80% of my fees. If you decide to submit a claim for insurance reimbursement, I'll gladly help.
A little reassurance first: My patients have said that the process of getting reimbursed by their insurance is much easier than it initially sounds - and I'm glad to help make it as smooth as possible for you. Knowledge is power, so it's good to know what to expect as reimbursement for psychotherapy - and how to make sure your insurance company is handling your reimbursement fairly and accurately according to your insurance coverage.
I've been practicing as a psychologist for more than twenty-five years, and I'm grateful to have received expert help, support, and consultation along the way. One thing I learned early on is that the more good therapists there are, the stronger our communities are, and that helps us all. I strongly believe all psychotherapists should make consultation with colleagues a routine part of their practice, throughout their careers.

Most people aren't going to review their therapist, so I want to share my opinion, as a way to pay it forward. A friend referred me to Marsha, initially for some consultation on the work I do (I work with law firms and other corporations to increase productivity and to reduce in-firm conflict, so I'm pretty psychologically savvy).
I found Marsha to be an invaluable, trustworthy resource, and I was so impressed with her expertise, insight, and openness that years later, when I hit a big-a** bump in the road of life, I sought her out for psychotherapy.
First, she has what I would rank as the utmost

I have known Dr. Lucas for the past five years as a therapy colleague and office suite mate. She is incredibly warm and compassionate and makes you feel at ease within minutes of meeting her. I trust her counseling and therapy skills implicitly and never hesitate to refer patients to her. Over the years, I've benefited from her practice wisdom and have consulted with her on difficult cases. She was also the inspiration for me to explore the world of mindfulness meditation within therapy. You definitely can't go wrong with Marsha! Highly recommended.
