Dental Radiographs are commonly called X-rays. Dentists use radiographs for many reasons: to find hidden dental structures, bone loss, tooth arrangements, cavities, and some radiographic anomalies that could be used as diagnostics for underlying diseases or issues. Radiographs can be used as comparisons to check progression of periodontal disease as well as cavity growth.
A composite restoration is a resin tooth-colored plastic mixture filled with glass (silicon dioxide). Introduced in the 1960s, dental composites were confined to the front teeth because they were not strong enough to withstand the pressure and wear generated by the back teeth. Since then, composites have been significantly improved and can be successfully placed in the back teeth as well.
Porcelain dental crowns are essentially durable coverings placed over a tooth to restore form function and esthetics to teeth that are heavily decayed, damaged, or broken down. Porcelain crowns can be used in a variety of situations including:to protect a weak tooth, to restore a tooth that is already broken or severely worn down, or to cover a dental implant during the final stage of restoration.
