In 1990, John Puryear returned to his hometown of Gallatin, after earning his degree in Ornamental Horticulture and Landscape Design from the University of Tennessee.
He and wife Laura, who also graduated with a degree in horticulture, decided to make Gallatin their home because of a deep love of the community that his family has been part of since 1783. Together they started their landscaping business on the family farm on the north banks of the Cumberland River and, with the help of family members, planted their first crop and built their first greenhouse.
