Our program is informed and guided by the latest research in the fields of biopsychology and neuroscience as it relates to the developing brain. The implications of this research are that new learning, and therefore change, cannot occur until a child is emotionally, physically and cognitively regulated.
These words, often used to describe the Osage trees that surround our facilities, also capture those qualities we hope to nurture and develop in the children we serve through Osage Strong.
By combining horses and nature with evidence-based practices Osage Strong endeavors to build resilient children who can withstand, survive and perhaps even thrive through the ravages of poverty, abuse, neglect, addiction and other chronic adverse life experiences. In spite of the beauty and richness of our region, life in Appalachia can be extremely challenging for many of the children growing up in our midst.

The therapeutic needs of children who have experienced or are experiencing adverse life conditions vary widely. Some children need 1:1 intensive psychotherapy while others might benefit most from a group type setting where they can make friends, have fun and learn useful life skills. Through assessments and discussions with our program director, a determination will be made about the most appropriate placement for the child you are referring.
