ACPV systems offer a simpler way to go solar that eliminates one of the most costly and unreliable components of a PV system: the central or string inverter. Microinverters are at the heart of the system. Microinverters convert the sun's energy at the module - rather than the system - level, making PV systems run much more efficiently than comparative systems based on central or string inverters.
In a conventional PV system, inverters are the leading cause of failure. Designed to last around 10 years, inverters must be replaced at least once - and often two or three times - during the average 25-year life of a PV system, increasing the system's overall cost. SolarBridge believes that once a solar system is installed on a roof, it should stay there.
Decreased shock hazard: Personal injury risk is greatest in a traditional DC-based system containing a string/central inverter where you have a high DC bus voltage (up to 600V dc in the US and up to 1000V dc in Europe). With an AC module system, installers and maintenance personnel are not exposed to high voltage DC.
