A massive rotator cuff tear refers to a tear that prevents normal repair of the torn tendon back to bone. For a review of rotator cuff tears and their treatment, please visit our rotator cuff tear section here. Patients with massive tears often exhibit signs and symptoms that have been associated with poor outcomes after.
The rotator cuff is a group of four muscles that come together to form a large tendon "cuff" that allows our shoulders to move normally. These muscles start on the scapula (shoulder blade) and connect to the humerus (upper arm bone). The rotator cuff allows smooth overhead movements of the shoulder and provides stability to the joint.
Shoulder arthroscopy (also known as a "shoulder scope") is a surgical procedure where a small camera (the arthroscope) is placed inside the shoulder joint to allow complete visualization of the joint and minimally invasive treatment of shoulder problems. Small surgical instruments are placed through tiny skin incisions and are visualized on a TV screen.
Hip impingement is when there is abnormal contact between the femur and acetabulum during normal movements of the hip joint. This can be caused by an femoral head that is not perfectly round (Cam type impingement) or a acetabulum that is too deep (Pincer type impingement). Often both the head and the socket have.
The hip abductor is a group of muscles, similar to the rotator cuff in the shoulder, that allow the pelvis to remain level with the ground as we walk. It also helps stabilize the hip joint during movement, and is extremely important in the normal movement and functioning of the hip joint. Most abductor tears occur through overused and chronic inflammation and tendonitis of the abductor tendon.

Dr. Kyle Chun is a wonderful orthopedic surgeon. Also, the staff is always helpful and kind. Four months ago, he did my rotator cuff surgery and he was very professional and caring during the pre, surgery and post surgery process. Thank you Dr. Chun for your professional service and care. I am on the way to making a full recovery and to my long distance running. I would highly recommend Dr. Kyle Chun and his team at Orthopedic Associates to anyone.

Acted as if I was wasting his time. Looked at year-old MRI first but did not listen to current symptoms. Stated that all his patients have shoulder pain - duh, he's a shoulder guy! Impatient with questions. Even looked at his watch at one point. Zero bedside manner.

No reflection on Dr. Chun but this was a waste of time for me. I've already been there once and there was info on my condition before. I didn't need Dr. Chun to tell me I needed surgery, I already knew that. Now I have to call another doctor to tell me what I really want to know and this appointment was a waste of my time. Other than that Dr. Chun was good and so was the staff there.

I was referred to Dr Chun by a friend for my hamstring injury. I went in last week Friday and after speaking with him I knew right away I wanted him to do my surgery! He came into the room with such confidence and Aloha. He explained my options and gave me his professional opinion about my options.
I felt totally comfortable with him and I knew he was the doc for the job!
Got my surgery scheduled for the following Tuesday at the surgery center and now at home recovering!
Dr. Chun and all the staff, nurses and Anethesiologists are amazing and friendly! They show care and they work awesome

Dr. Chun is honest, has great bedside manner, and is very current with new procedures/techniques in his field. I came to each appointment with my notepad of questions and Dr. Chun answered each question in a way that could be understood by non-medical individuals. Highly recommended for advanced knee arthroscopy.

I have been a patient of Dr. Chun for several years. He is a great Orthopedic doctor; he treats both his patients and staff with respect. Dr. Chun is easy to talk to and communicates well as to ensure I understand what is discussed. His office staff is very friendly; the office setting is neat and organized. At times my doctor decision-making is based on the doctor & experience, the staff and office environment. In this instance, overall is top notch! I would highly recommend Dr. Chun.

Dr. KYLE Chun is my shoulder specialist. I adore him and trust him. He is very straight up about what he does best and when he thinks another Dr. Is a better fit. We get along because I am an active participant in my procedures . I do research and I ask questions. Today we discussed a need for shoulder surgery and he made it clear that decision would be all mine.

I am very pleased to have found Dr Chun. The check in was smooth and efficient. The staff was friendly and professional. Dr Chun is friendly, upbeat, and very professional. The treatment he provided in his office was very helpful and provided some immediate pain relief. I’m looking forward to the follow up appointment and I’m only sorry that it took so long to find Dr Kyle. So much needless pain could have been avoided.

For decades, I suffered with the after-effects of a hairline fracture of my right shoulder that occurred during a high school basketball tournament back in...well, when I was a high school freshman. I'm 69 years old now. Being your typical high school athlete/idiot, I didn't realize the seriousness of the original injury and began throwing with my right arm since baseball season was starting up and I was one of our high school's pitchers. I figured the soreness would just work itself out. Wrong. It became worse, which, of course, only convinced the high school me to throw harder

Today was my 1st visit. I was very impressed, as Dr Chun is very personable, humble, & professional, & very concerned about his patients. MRI request approved via HMSA within hours & date scheduled the same day, this doesn't happened at other offices, believe me. I felt welcome by his staff, as soon as I entered the entry door, until I exited. He & his staff are definitely 5 Stars *****. Highly recommended.

Dr. Chun and his staff ROCKS!!! I've never had a bad experience there. The staff is super friendly, helpful and always exceeds my expectations. Sad as it is, I've seen Dr. Chun for multiple surgeries. As uncomfortable it was for me to keep returning, the doctor and his staff never ever made me feel awkward or treated me like I had major issues. They seem happy to see me again. Dr. Chun is not only very competent in his expertise, but he is a true local boy which makes me able to relate. He breaks things down for me to comprehend. I'm moving off island soon but am determine

My husband saw Dr. Chun for a consult and he was very personable and professional. He discussed the options and made him feel at ease that he was the right one to do the surgery. It was scheduled during that visit and his staff was courteous and organized. All of our questions were promptly answered (thank you Chrissy) and the procedure was done at MIS in Hale Pa'waa. The staff there was very professional and everyone worked well together. Dr. Chun was just as confident and dedicated as we hoped he would be for this delicate and important surgery. My family and I are very grateful to have found Dr. Chun . He performed a difficult surgery on my son's shoulder. This was a very emotional time for us, as his shoulder injury was the result of a seizure.
Dr. Chun was very cautious about my son's condition and had my son see a neurologist to insure that he would not have any seizures during surgery. We really appreciate the care and concern he took for our son!
Because of the success of the surgery, my son's rehabilitation was cut short . The rehabilitation therapist said Dr. Chun did a very good job!

This is an update on my review of almost a year ago this date. Nothing new to say other than like a fine wine; it improves with time.

This visit was prompted because I wanted a cortisone shot for my hurting knee. (I've been exercising getting ready for the winter ski season and that in itself has caused some aggravation in my knee). So the question posed to me was "Who made you doctor?"..." to think that a cortisone shot will cure your ailments? "

The short story is I did in fact get my cortisone shot so my knee is happier but I've been ordered to take additional

If there was an option to select 100 stars for Dr Chun's rating, I would definitely have chosen that. I was truly impressed with his expertise, bed side manners, and wonderful staff. It's been over a year since he performed rotator cuff surgery on my left shoulder and I regret not acknowledging his talents until now. Mahalo Dr Chun!
