Owners Jan & Jay Vavricek of Grand Island had long dreamed of a restaurant that provided a high-quality experience with high-quality cuisine. That became 40 North Tap + Grille; a place of fine-dining across all facets as well as a high-quality sports lounge for the sports enthusiast. In 2018 Jay and Jan began bringing this dream to a reality and purchased to historic Antique Warehouse building on the corner of 3rd & Elm in Railside.

High vaulted ceilings, exposed brick and over 100 years of stories, this building proved to be the right location to bring the dream to fruition. A love for the surrounding land is the underlying source of inspiration for our seasonal menus at 40 North Tap + Grille. The majority of our ingredients come from right here in central Nebraska.
Services
Steak Toppers 3 - Choose from Red Wine Mushrooms, IPA Beer Caramelized Onions, Creamy Horseradish Sauce or Peppercorn Cream Sauce. Walleye seared in lemon butter with blackened seasoning served on a bed of rice with our seasonal vegetable. Cavatappi noodles tossed in our house made sauce made with smoked gouda, brie, white cheddar parmesan and sharp cheddar.
2 eggs done your way, with 2 slices of toast, hash browns, and your choice of bacon, sausage, or ham. An English muffin split in half and toasted, topped with Canadian bacon and poached eggs, all smothered in hollandaise sauce. Consuming raw or undercooked meats, poultry, seafood, shellfish, or eggs may increase your risk of foodborne illness, especially if you have certain medical conditions.
Inside the Sports Bar at 40 North, it is yet another reason to enjoy Grand Islands finest sports establishment. Enjoy your favorite craft brew and an exquisite dinner while watching your favorite horse races and sporting events on 34 flat screens including our 16-feet wide Super Screen. There's nothing like it between Lincoln and Denver.
Private parties, wedding rehearsals and receptions, prom and graduation to PTA events, business meetings and presentations on our super screen. Also on the 16 feet-wide super screen, sporting events from March Madness to the Superbowl to high school video casts. Our executive chef will work with you to put together a meal ranging from a burger and fries to Grand Island's freshest seafood and Nebraska steaks.
The building that is home to 40 North Tap + Grille was built 100-years ago with an automotive history. Inside are the same rafters, delivered by horse and wagon and by train. The building was occupied by WL Brotherton Motor Company, Norris Motor Company, Killion Motor Company and as you see in the photo, Oakland Pontiac.

Love the decor! The gentleman who greeted us, if you can call it that, asked if we (3) had a reservation. It was hard not to snicker as the restaurant was basically empty. Our server was very good. Quite a wait for food, considering very few in the restaurant. Don't mind paying for a good meal, $119 was a bit much. Honestly, could have made our meals at home. So, if I understand, spend $30 on a meal....and not even get a salad? Lesson learned. TX Roadhouse and Tx Tbone will get ourbusiness.

The portions seemed small for the price. I had the ribeye steak and it was very blah. The cream style corn was very good. My favorite part of the night. For 2 of us it was over $120. It was nice to finally go there and try it tho

Ribeye was over cooked and very tough. Cheese sauce on hashbrowns was gross. Brussel sprouts were undercooked. The server was very polite and did a nice job. Wedge salad was good but it was the only thing worth eating. Way over priced for low quality

My ribeye was super tough, my baked potato was too cold to melt butter, and my vegetables were also cold. My salad was good, and the server was great. The establishment was clean and nice.

I ordered the blackened shrimp alfredo and it was horrible. It cost 34 dollars and had 6 total pieces of shrimp and scallops. The noodles were basically dry, no sauce, no flavor. The server was not overly good. Asked once about drinks and then never returned to ask again. When members of my party mentioned a messed up order the server argued with her and when we mentioned that a sandwich was very burnt and black, she did not offer to fix it.

My patty melt came to me very burnt (as shown in the picture). When this was mentioned to the waitress, she simply said “I’m sorry, dear” and didn’t offer to bring out a new one or any sort of compensation. My mom’s chicken sandwich, which was supposed to have red onion, lettuce and a sauce on it, came out as literally just a piece of chicken between two buns. My cousin’s noodles which were supposed to have alfredo sauce on them had no Alfredo sauce.
While the atmosphere of the restaurant was very nice and the drinks were good, clearly something was very off that evening in the kitchen

E went to 40 North for lunch today and you guys...they have a chicken fried steak that is bigger than most newborn babies! The food was all amazing and comparable in price to other burger joints in town! Service was top notch but the best part is the ambiance! Highly recommend! I would love to post pics of fried mozzarella and artichoke dip but my kids devoured it before I could get my camera out!

Very very nice atmosphere. Service is incredible from the moment you make your reservation. The device staff are very friendly and do a very nice job with being there as you need and not constantly at the table, which I like. Menu has very nice options from several appetizers, to top notch dishes. My fiance got the seared Yellowfin tuna with rice, I got the 40 day aged bone in ribeye, with roasted potatoes and brussel sprouts. This is odd for me to say, but the brussel sprouts were just as amazing as the steak, which was cooked to perfection.
