Testing for glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration, and other retinal diseases or disorders. At Appalachian Eye Care in Princeton, WV & Giles, VA we cater to the individual needs of each patient with our well trained staff members, who provide personalized attention. We do much more than just check your vision and provide you with eyeglasses.
Glaucoma, cataracts, and age-related macular degeneration are just a few of the common eye diseases which affect older patients. Even if your vision is fine, annual eye health exams can detect eye and systemic diseases in the early stages when it is easier to prevent vision loss. Help maintain quality of life with good eye care.
According to the American Optometric Association (AOA), infants should have their first comprehensive eye exam at 6 months of age. Children then should receive additional eye exams at 3 years of age, and just before they enter kindergarten or the first grade at about age 5 or 6. For school-aged children, the AOA recommends an eye exam every two years if no vision correction is required.
Our OCT helps us better manage glaucoma and diseases of the retina because this technology allows the eye doctor to see the deep tissue layers in the eye. These high-definition images are the only way that they can actually see beneath the surface to the nerve fiber layers where damage occurs. Up until now, eye doctors had to use other tests to indicate damage in this critical area of sight.

This was a very pleasant experience for my daughter and I. The staff was simply amazing, down to earth, respectful, and professional. They were all up beat and positive and made you feel welcome. The exams (we did contact exams) were very pleasant and accurate. I feel they are very up to par with their knowledge. Special shoutout to Kayla at the front desk! There's a lot of places that could use that lady's personality!!!!! Highly recommend to any individual or family! Hope ya'll stick around for a while!
They also have a great selection of frames and sunglasses! We were looking at that while

I was a new patient to this office, and I was impressed. There was very little waiting time to get in and between each step of my examination. Everyone was friendly and helpful, and each step was explained as we went along. I really liked Dr. Ortiz. She was careful to make sure that I understood the procedures and the instructions and follow-up. The glasses technician was very patient and professional with me and helped me find glasses that fit me and fit my lifestyle. Overall great experience!
