The Tamarack Lodge has 21 rooms and cabins and nearly 250 full-grown pine and fir trees on nearly four acres of land. We are at the edge of the forest, but Tahoe City is just a mile away. Come here to experience the "Old Tahoe" feel. Come here to commune with nature. Come here to go hiking or mountain biking with Tamarack as your starting point and Antoine Meadows, Mount Watson, the Fiberboard Freeway, or Northstar as your destination.
Come here to ski directly onto the Tahoe XC trails. Come here to be near the newly rebuilt Lake Forest boat ramp, and beaches. Come here to cook a meal instead of always going out, on our barbecues or in our kitchens. Come here to sit around the fireplace with friends or at a family reunion. Come here to hear the coyotes, see the bears, and get a good night's sleep at a fair price.

One theory for our location is our spring. We have a fabulous spring here on the property, which long provided all of our rooms with the most extraordinary water. About 25 years ago, in the interest of eliminating all possible risk, we were told that we could no longer use spring water for our guests.
There is no dearth of dining optionsin Tahoe City and the surrounding area. The North Lake Tahoe Chamber of Commerce lists most of them on its website, and we have no intention of duplicating that effort here. Instead, we are simply going to name a few restaurants that our guests have repeatedly mentioned as providing a superior meal.
Take Highway 80 East towards Reno. When you get close to Truckee take the exit 185 for Highway 89 South/ Squaw Valley/Tahoe City. This exit will put you on Highway 89 heading south towards Tahoe City. Follow Highway 89 all the way to Tahoe City approx. 14 miles. When you get to Tahoe City you will come to the only traffic light in town.

I honestly don’t know how they’re able to make something this special — rustic/quaint aesthetics with meticulous cleanliness and all the thoughtful little touches and practical amenities that are the height of luxury imo— stay this affordable. I’ve been fascinated by this place since February, when we stayed across the street in a nice but pricey Airbnb condo. Every time we passed the sign for the Lodge, I thought “Wes Anderson imagined this place into existence.” (For anyone who’s not a fan of his tweeness, rest assured there’s nothing pretentious or overly cutesy about this

Delightful historic inn also with a couple of small cabins situated immediately adjacent to tall pine trees. This morning we watched a healthy-looking coyote hunting right outside our window. We are staying in the Sweet Sixteen cabin and it’s stylish and cozy. The inn is just the right combination of comfort and beauty without the generic gloss of a chain hotel. Gerard has been helpful and friendly. When I commented to him that the room is just as I expected it from the photos he replied that he took the photos himself so it’s not a professional photographer’s work that could make the cabin

Tamarack Lodge was an ideal place to stay in Tahoe, especially if you're on a budget (given how expensive the area is). It's a beautiful property, with the classic log cabin feel, and is centrally located to get anywhere on the north side of the lake.
It's also perfect for anyone who, like my wife and I, are trying to work from the road. They have great wi-fi, and it's incredibly relaxing to do your work with a beautiful forest in the background and the lake across the street.

We visited Lake Tahoe to enjoy nature and escape urban noise. So, Tamarack Lodge delivered! Our cabin was quaint, furnished with prospector tools (like grappling hooks), and a covered patio where we would eat breakfast. The grounds were spacious, with things to entertain kids (and us!) such as a basketball hoop and table tennis equipment. The place was spotlessly clean, and COVID protocols were in place. But the real pleasure was our hosts, Frederique & Gerard. They were so gracious, on the phone and in person. They were so happy to fill us in on the history of the property, as well as their take

This place was beautiful! Gerard was so nice! He waited for us to come in late around 10:30 pm. He was so very kind. The room was beautiful the bed was comfortable and they let us bring our little dog. If we didn’t want to get home so badly we would have stayed an other night for sure! Thanks so much!

Very clean rustic rooms, family friendly, dog friendly with the absolute friendliest staff (Anita the cleaner was so pleasant) and the owners were on site and so accommodating with recommendations for walks and hikes in the area. Our room had a great little kitchen in it, with the most comfortable beds. Such a relaxed feel, cant wait to come back.
