We wish to extend a special welcome to Laura Andrews, B.A., graduate student at the University of Maine - Orono who is working with our program as part of her doctoral training program in psychology. Dr. Apolito received his doctorate in counseling psychology in 1990, from Boston College, and has been a licensed psychologist in Maine for 9 years.
Complexity of behavior: Emotional, behavior and learning problems are the result of complex interaction of characteristics of the child, his or her family, and the environment. Many factors influence when and how a problem develops, how it affects a child and family, and how it changes over time. For example, the circumstances that cause a problem to develop may be different from what maintains or changes the problem.
Maine Child Psychology has limited openings for psychological treatment and consultation. Parent behavior management consultation: We work with parents to understand the causes of child misbehavior (such as physical aggression to other children, refusing to follow instructions), review strategies parents have tried but have not worked, and assist parents to develop and implement new tools to reduce these behavior problems.
What will happen during my child's psychological evaluation? The psychological evaluation will be individually tailored to the specific concerns that you or the referral source have. As such, the procedures differ from one assessment to another. In most instances, this will include a thorough interview with a parent or guardian about many aspects of your child's functioning, development and background, and observation of your child.
