I enjoyed my lunch. I had a lovely winter slaw and pesto chicken salad sandwich. They even had gluten free options and I picked up a yummy gluten free cheesecake.

Outstanding! First visit and loved the coffee and their breakfast burrito. Which was really two portions in one! Will definitely go back for more.

The lemon bars are so addicting! I always try something new each time I come in. We also ordered a pie and rolls for thanksgiving and they were amazing !

Any day that I don’t bring my own food for lunch, I love to have anything from Back Alley Bakery! They always have amazing & healthy options!

The gluten free carrot cake was to die for. I'd drive here from Omaha just for that. They catered two meals for us and both were outstanding. I'll be going back!!

I absolutely LOVE the lunch menu here! Service is great, and food is wonderful. They change the menu every day, which keeps things different.
In addition to their great lunch menu, their fresh baked breads, and desserts are fantastic! I'd eat here everyday if could.

Best lunch spot around. Neighborhood admission, brilliant client support, basic menu, new bread, and sweet treats. Thursday night is pizza night, call ahead to arrange. They additionally have great morning meals, yet I'm typically there for lunch. Appear a little before early afternoon assuming you need to get a seat.

Love running to Hastings from G I to get their fresh cracked wheat bread. It's delicious!! Also have yummy desserts and a good lunch menu

Beer Gouda Soup is our favorite! Love Back Alley Backery! Delicious food, breads, and dessert. If you haven't been there, you are missing out.

Stopped in for dessert options for Easter. What a fantastic place! Loved the decor! It was extremely busy but experienced great customer service and LOVED the variety of options available! Will definitely drive the extra miles to come back! Keep up the great work!

What a find! We enjoyed the lightest yeasted coffee cake -- layered, not crumbly, just the right amount of sugar and nuts on top, and easily 4" high. The seeded loaf also was spectacular. Nothing's dense or too chewy. Hope we have a reason soon to get back to Hastings.

Fun atmosphere! Good food! Attentive service. I would highly recommend grabbing a loaf or two of bread to go! The cinnamon rolls were outstanding! I wish every town supported small businesses the way that this city does!

This is slowly becoming one of my favorite small town sandwich shops. I have had food from here more than once since I work in town and I look forward to coming back often. The rotating daily lunch menu really gives the place a spark of variety and keeps my tastebuds watering to try some new menu items. The inside is quaint with a relaxing vibe. I think the small tables give it a cool twist to a bakery. And even getting food to carry out or cater is great. Now that I'm thinking of it, I think I'll go buy some bread here tomorrow!

Busy place but very good service. The quiche was excellent and the watermelon/feta cheese side was a nice change. Prices were reasonable. If you are looking for a unique place to eat, check this out

I strongly recommend The Back Alley Bakery and Restaurant. Located downtown Hastings kiddy corner to the Fridley Theatre, this family owned business was founded in 2003. It has a charming interior decor of antiques and a brick wall. The cinnamon rolls are the best cinnamon rolls I have had west of the Mississippi. The caramel rolls are the best I have had in Nebraska. Be sure to ask to have those pastries heated. I think they taste good with a pad of butter. I noticed that one of the owners was present when I was visiting. I tend to find that businesses whose owners are present are well run. I

What a great atmosphere the owners have developed here! Beautiful and elegant decor. Salads looked beautiful, tastefully chosen menus and a bakery case to die for. We chose 5 different things to indulge in and each was better than the last. My only regret is that my whole family would not appreciate blue cheese stuffed bread and so I compromised with a $5 loaf of garlic cheese bread that he sliced right in front of me for easy snacking. Delicious.
Not really a place for rambunctious kids but if you lucked out with kids who sit still then you would enjoy eating in. If you have 3 boys like me, order

Let me preface this with saying I will be returning to give them another shot as I thought their bakery was wonderfully set up and looks like it has a lot of potential. My family and I are new to Grand Island and decided to explore Hastings when we wound up here in an attempt to find somewhere new to eat. Upon entering we could see there were maybe 3-5 people working who all looked at us since they weren't busy and we were easy to spot. Not one of them came out to greet us or ask if we needed anything although we were standing up at the front trying to find a menu or something to look at

We had Back Alley make an assortment of cakes for our wedding reception and they were spectacular. Ellen baked a number of different cakes, but our favorite was definitely the German Chocolate. We would highly recommend them for wedding catering!

We've also been there for lunch on a number of occasions and the soups are always fantastic. My husband is obsessed with the blue cheese baguette and I love the toasted sun seed bread. And the cinnamon buns are a wonderful way to start the day.

I have been here for lunch a few times and it is always very very good. This is one of those places that you don't expect to find in a small town, let alone in the middle of Nebraska. They have a changing lunch menu which usually includes a panini sandwich or a salad with a choice of a side. I usually order a soup for the side.
Last time I was here, I had a chicken cordon blue panini with a tomato bisque for the soup side. Very excellent! Oh, it's a bakery so they have great desserts such as cakes and lemon bars. I had a peanut butter - chocolate cake which so rich and delicious

My FAVORITE place in hastings. Everything is fresh and tastes amazing. I love how they change the menu up and keep you on your toes! Sincerely, the best food in town. You occasionally have to wait a bit....seems like they have a limited staff. But it's worth the wait if you have time.
