Call us for info on how the State of Massachusetts is promoting solar energy for homes and businesses! Simply email or call us and we can come out to your home within a few business days to get you on the path to energy independence! Imagine locking in low electricity rates for the next 20 years. Sounds pretty good, right?
No wonder every six minutes someone installs a Southern Light Solar system. That means tens of thousands of happy, money-saving, tree-hugging (well, not really) customers benefiting from lower bills and lifetime support. Together, we're creating a planet run by the sun. Now's the time to go solar and save!

Services
People have been using the sun for centuries. We learned to cook with it and even to start fires with it. We even built some of the earliest buildings to use it for heating and to avoid it for cooling! But more recently, some smart people realized that it could do a lot more. They started to figure out how to make it improve our lives and do things we need by turning it into electricity.
There are some basic, key components common to most home solar power installations, whether rooftop mounted or ground mounted. Photovoltaic (PV) solar panels convert sunlight to electricity. The most common types of PV solar panels are made of crystalline silicon solar cells.
The electricity produced runs through an inverter that converts the direct current (DC) electricity into alternating current (AC) electricity that can power anything, most commonly an electric car or entire home.As one of the best parts of installing a solar energy system, the homeowner trades fuel sources and takes advantage of the unlimited and free sunshine.

The economics of a rooftop solar energy system works differently for homeowners and businesses depending on where you are in the country. Fortunately for residents of Massachusetts and Rhode Island, the balance between the cost of solar and the cost of continuing to buy all electricity from the utility makes solar power a nearly irresistible solution.
A solar energy system is a unique home improvement investment. Unlike most other repairs and upgrades, rooftop solar gives the buyer a desirable balance of costs and savings, as well as earnings thanks to incentives. That is why many people correctly say, "Solar power pays for itself and then some."
In Massachusetts the popularity of solar energy technology has driven the installation of over 2.5 GW in solar power capacity. Much of that is rooftop solar placed on homes and businesses. While Rhode Island is catching up, the steps needed to efficiently go solar are mostly the same. Southern Light Solar is an experienced designer and installer, having refined our process along the way all for the benefit of the buyer.

I would not recommend this company. We have had our system in for around 4 years (don't get me wrong the system works great). Our roof started leaking before thanksgiving right at a place where the bracket is attached to the roof. Chris (the owner) has ignored my emails as there is no direct line to him or his staff and has no intention of resolving. The issue is no other solar company will touch it as they are all flat out with installations and will only support their own customers. Now I will have to go to litigation. Go with a company that stands behind their warranty. This company does not

We had panels installed on our roof by Southern Light Solar over 3 years ago and successfully received credit for the power until Oct. 2018 but we have not had any credit from them since that time. We called when we returned home in April, 2019 and several weeks later an employee arrived and said we needed a new part for the outside meter. This part did not arrive until September but it is now January 2020 and we are still not getting any credit toward our electric bill! I have called the office in New Bedford and talked with Lionel LaFleur several times but recent phone calls are going unanswered

I have had this solar system for 2 years now. During a windstorm this month one of my panels got damaged from flying debris. I reached out to southern light solar and the owner Chris showed genuine concern and had one of his professionals out the very next day and changed out the damaged panel. Installation with this company was outstanding and even 2 years later they are taking care of their customers with the same genuine concern and reliability

Chris Sheldon and his crew are top notch. Together, he and his team of sales people along with Tori, Lionel put together a very comprehensive package of design and installation documents. David Santos did a great job installing the system even during some pretty inclement weather. This was all during the transition from SREC to the Smart Program. They were all upfront about project expectations, transparent, and honest throughout the whole process. I highly recommend them if you are looking for the best value, great installation, and a customer service oriented team.

We bought a 3,200sq ft Ranch house in 2016 and added another 2,800 sq. ft for a 2nd floor and finished attic. Given the size of the house, we decided to install solar panels on the roof. The house has a southern exposure and has little shading from nearby trees. We ended up using Southern Light for our installation of 36 panels (11.3KW). They were on time with the installation and the promised completion date. We are very happy with the work and would recommend them to others.

Really a great company from start to finish. I had 24 panels installed and they kept me informed on everything they were doing for the duration. About a month after the system was up and running they saw a problem with one of the components and showed up on a Sunday to fix the problem. Very smooth transaction with a 3 year break even. Best decision I ever made!
