What a great find! Of all the places we stayed near Utah parks, this was our favorite. The shaded courtyard/pool area in front of the hotel is perhaps the prettiest and friendliest place in Torrey, especially when everyone's getting dinner from the great, well-priced Capitol Burger truck. Friendly staff eager to give local advice. General Store has fabulous, inexpensive selection of food, beer, sandwiches to go, and FREE coffee, cappuccino, hot chocolate for hotel guests. Stay here rather than the other sterile hotel chains just outside town.

Simple place to stay on the way from Capitol Reef National Park to Bryce Canyon National Park. Easy location to find with several restaurants in the area. Room was small, simple, and clean. The wi-fi did not work and the air conditioner seemed to be on its'. way out resulting in a two-star deduction. I would still stay here in the future, I would just select a different room or a cabin.

We stayed 3 nights at the hotel, used the laundromat twice and shopped at the general store several times. Location is very central in tiny Torrey, walkable to a shop across the street and sits right between the several restaurants in the area (a mile or so away, easier to drive to than walk to). Room was clean, roomy, bathroom was updated with newer tub liner and new tile. Fridge in room was very useful, small dresser held what we 3 needed for the trip. Not fancy but very practical and convenient and clean. Laundromat was also clean, machines worked well (best dryer is nearest the door, according

The General Store is all I can review, since we weren't staying at the hotel. It was a cute store, and though all the locals and Utah-based tourists were unmasked, we got no grief for wearing ours inside. All the members of the staff we talked to were cheerful and friendly, and we felt all the more comfortable and welcome because of their smiles.
We browsed the goods since we were of a mind to get snacks and settled on a small berry pie with a crumble top. Though it was the size of a single-serving pot-pie, it took 2 of us 2 meals to finish all of it because it was so very rich and berrylicious

Couldn't find a place to stay in Escalante or Boulder after visiting Bryce Canyon and was blessed to find this gem!!! We were in town just in time to get supper at the food truck at the hotel ( Capitol Burger, will get its own amazing review!) and grab some groceries from the full store attached to the hotel. Every person we met went above and beyond to make us feel like home. We were in Cabin #7, first one by the road and there was zero road noise! The cabin had its own parking space with: outdoor grill and picnic table, front porch with beautiful hand crafted wooden chairs, two separate

We absolutely loved Austin's Chuck Wagon Motel. It was extremely clean, impeccable maintained. The large trees throughout the grounds made for beautiful relaxing areas to sit out front and enjoy the cool afternoon breezes. So beautiful. The restaurant serves great lunch. Nice pool and spa. This will be our go to locale for Capitol Reef.

I have been to Torrey twice and have had the unfortunate problem of having a sick kid both times. This place feeds on people paying a 4 times the regular price mark up on almost expired goods. Totally highway robbery at this place and they treat people very callously. They know there rip off artists and have no moral calms about it. I love it here in Torrey but won't set foot upon this rip off of a place ever again.

We love the Chuckwagon! We buy basic groceries, eat breakfast at the deli, and wash our smelly hiking clothes in the laundry - all at Austin's Chuckwagon. I see negative comments about selection and price, but look at where you are and start the long drive to the nearest chain or big box if you're so offended. We have spent two different weeks in Torrey over the last three years. We take our business to the Chuckwagon almost daily. Stop in and see them!

Hotel:
We paid $74 to stay the night in the cleanest, most comfy little room above the general store. It was small but plenty roomy for me and my husband. The bed was comfortable, the linens were soft, the room was very clean and cozy. Also, it was totally quiet, even in the morning when the store was open and folks were coming and going. One more thing - the soaps are really nice! We only ended up using the hand soap and the lotion but it smelled wonderful. Great night sleep and really just such a pleasant stay for a really great rate.

Just super-expensive. It's the only grocery store in town and they know it - 50 sq ft of aluminum foil is $6.50, a small bag of trail mix is $6.50. I have no idea what I paid or thing I actually bought, but my total bill for supplies to make burgers for four adults was $38. The cashier's response when another customer complained about high prices? "Well then, drive to Loa!"
You have to need it really bad to get it from Austin's, because you'll pay double.

They have a little bit of everything here including a life breakfast and sand which cafe in the very back. If you forgot a Condiment, beer or want some handmade bread this is the place to stop. It's really cute and is actually reasonable for being the only place to get such a variety at. The biscuits and gravy are my go to when we come through town. Always good customer service. The only thing is that single drinks in the fridge are incredibly over priced. Better luck at the gas station.

This place is no frill, but it has everything you need and the nicest staff ever. The deli do Natalie's is great for a quick bite, but they also have very well-stocked market with local beer, toiletries, and an impressive selection of groceries (they even had gluten free options and avocados- not your typical roadside mart!). The rooms are pretty basic, but they are clean, quiet, and comfortable. They offer free coffee and tea to their guests. The best part- it's only 10 minutes from Capitol Reef National Park! Would definitely recommend!

This is just a great place to go when visiting Capitol Reef or just passing through. Right in the middle of town, everything in Torrey UT is convenient. Spend some time getting to know the folks at the front desk. With 5 generations of Southern Utah knowledge we quickly learned several "stories behind the stories" and off the beaten path excursions that were the highlight of our trip.

Time for an update. After many visits over many years, I can say that this is my preferred, go-to spot for all the "forgot to pack it" or "want to grab some" or "need it for our trip" essentials.
Let's get this out of the way first: Yes. Yes, you're going to pay just a little bit more for your groceries or whatever else here than the supermarket in your neighborhood at home. That's the name of the game when you're trucking meats and veggies and canned goods and dried goods across the roads of central Utah. But it's not typically egregious

Fresh fruit! Fresh vegetables! What a beautiful sight!
For anybody staying in Torrey, Austin's Chuckwagon is a good spot to get simple groceries (including some healthier options!) without having to drive up the road to Loa. If you're just looking for the usual convenience-store items, they've got those, too.
There is a deli in the back, where you can get sandwiches, a few deli meats by the pound, and pastries, as well. Don't be fooled by other reviews saying that the sandwiches are good. They're nothing different than what you would make in your own kitchen--bread,

I stayed in one of the small rooms over the back of the store. It was pretty cheap, comparatively, and very basic as well, but it was just me.
Pros:
Close to Capitol Reef NP.
Inexpensive and clean
Great general store and a good inexpensive breakfast in the store
Cons:
The building that makes up the store and four rooms above is very old, with squeaky floors, and some stairs in need of repair.
No mini-fridge. Could've really used one.
I recommend.
