Jim and Sandi developed an interest in winemaking after tinkering with kit wines in their basement in North Carolina almost twenty years ago. Sandi went on to attend U.C. Davis for enology when they relocated to Hong Kong for Jim's work. She took her classes online while they lived abroad. It only made sense to the Ramaker family to start a vineyard and winery in 2004 on their property at Smith Mountain Lake.
Their family began what would be a nine year investment of time, money, and passion. In 2010, the old farmhouse had to be torn down to make room for an updated facility. We love this area and are devoted to making wine a pleasurable experience for each of our guests whether you are an oenophile or novice wine taster.

Excellent quality and variety of wines. The owners are incredibly knowledgeable and welcoming. We stopped here to enjoy a tasting to get out of an evening rain storm at our camp site in Smith Mountain state park. Every variety was complex and pleasing. I highly recommend this vineyard. They have cheeses, fresh Italian pizzas and chocolates for wine pairings. This is a very well thought out vineyard and we are glad we stopped by! I feel this vineyard is taken for granted in this area!

The location is beautiful but customer service and wine left something to be desired. We got several flights and cheese. The dry wines tasted like they were not aged as much as they should but the sweets were fine. When I ordered cheese, dips, and crackers, I was handed a block of cheese and a paper plate. The woman working the window seemed annoyed when I asked for more than one plate. A charcuterie board would have been a lot better for the price. The young man that brought the wine was nice but the woman at the window did not seem like she wanted to be there or talk to her customers.
