The "little train that could" was merely a young man's "dream" in the fall of 1995 when Robert struggled with the concept of an idea to create a retail environment full of a unique product like no other in the world. Most would call that "bold talk" for a young individual with no proven "ownership" track record in the western retail industry.
But Mr. Waight's apprenticeship, while in college, with an Austin-based western store, along with his travels through Europe and a self-imposed "will to succeed" would allow him to transcend his ideas into a type of market the "modern consumer" has never seen before.

Another review of this store said that they wouldn’t go as far as calling it a tourist trap but that’s exactly what it is. You’re much better off just buying boots and hats straight from Lucchese and Stetson. We paid $1,000 (marked down from $1,200) for a pair of mens boots that cost $750 on Lucchese’s website, and $500 for a pair of less expensive, discontinued Lucchese women’s boots. We should have done more research because “All Sales are final, no refunds, only exchanges.” The gentlemen that helped us were nice, but the price gauging is inexplicable and out of control.

I was in town for a tour of our wedding venue when I happened upon this hat shop. I couldn't wait to go because I had considered wearing a hat on the big day. This store had so many options for styles and even a bit of variety with pricing. I thought I was gonna spend over 200 for a hat, but found one for a little over $100. I had about 2 people ask if I needed help at first. When I finally needed assistance a gentleman started to get down hats for me but then quickly passed me off to someone else which was the only negative experience I had. Fortunately the lady who helped me was very knowledgeable

Came in for a hat. Found a women’s vintage leather jacket. No price. Asked an associate fir help. She said price was $185.00. A minute later another associate I think might have been a manager said the price was $285.00. She compared it to a completely different jacket. When I questioned her, I said this was probably a $60.00 Jacky from the Gap store when new. She responded, “call the gap and see if they will sell you one”. Extremely sarcastic. Went online and bought the exact vintage jacket on posh fir $75.00. Will never go back to Hats Headquarters, can’t stand rude people.

I can't say enough good things about the staff at Headquarter Hats, specifically Dean. On Monday Nov 22, we went in just to look at the Lucchese boots and learned so much more about the back story of the company and how the boots are made. Dean really took the time to get to know us and was able able to help us find the boots we really wanted and would work best for us. This store is a must visit when walking down Main Street.

I moved from NY to Leander, TX. I took a ride to Fredericksburg to spend the day walking up and down Main St. Sure enough I stumble upon this gem. I walked into Headquarters Hats not knowing anything about the hats in the store except for one thing, I wanted to buy and wear a “cowboy” western style hat. I have always bought the NY fitted and beanies and that’s all I pretty much knew about hats. I loved the “cowboy” western style look about the hats but I didn’t know enough about them to build the confidence up and buy one.
