Dr. Jeffrey Boland was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA. After graduating with the highest honors from Mount Saint Mary's College with his bachelor of science degree in chemistry, Dr. Boland was offered an academic scholarship to Northwestern University Dental School in Chicago. During dental school, Dr. Boland was named to several high honor societies, including the Odontographic Society of Chicago and Omicron Kappa Upsilon.

Fixed braces have been around for hundreds of years, and have been made out of such materials as stainless steel, porcelain, and even gold! They are fastened to the teeth with a composite resin, and provide a fixed point that allows orthodontic wires to move them into their desired positions.
