Owner and founder Mark J Giarritta's love of concrete comes naturally, being born into a family that have been Masons for nearly 100 years. Mark's great grandfather Frank Jeffrey Giarritta the 1st tiled the lunar pools at the Hearst Castle as one of his crowning achievements in tile masonry and his Uncle Frank Jeffrey Giarritta the 3rd has been a well respected concrete contractor in placer County for over 30 years.
Mark started with his uncle learning the trade at 17 in 1998. He was taught to always create the highest quality concrete work possible, by making near perfect square foundations and taking a little extra time to do clean finish work.

Services
At Colossal we pride ourselves on producing foundations within a 1/4 inch of being perfectly square. This can save as much as 10% of the entire cost of building! Wether we need to Cliff hang and build your foundation on the side of a mountain, or you need a 60'x200' Steel Structure Foundation slab, we can build it.
Along with custom flat work around the outside of the house, we also produce beautiful: Kitchen, Living room, Hallway and Bathroom flooring. A big plus to interior flooring is that a textured finish is not necessary. This gives us the ability to make a very smooth hard trowel finish, that's extra durable and ready to receive an Acid Stained coloration.
Concrete retaining walls serve a number of different functions. They are used to level a hilly area in your yard, divert water or erosion, or protect and differentiate flower beds. If you are a die hard do-it-yourself person, adding a small retaining wall to your lawn is a pleasant new learning experience.
This is another of our more standard finishes but with a more raw natural look. With this finish we actually (expose) or wash away the smoother cement surface to expose the chosen Pea gravel aggregate beneath. Exposed aggregate is the only finish where we don't color the concrete but that's because the AGG color can be changed.
Stamped concrete is the most custom work we produce with multiple coloration techniques available.
To produce the appearance of different natural stone surfaces such as: heavy stone or (natural stone veins), Romans slate, cobblestones, rustic wood planks, and even spectacular castle block ashler cut slate, our highly skilled staff literally place stamp Mats directly on the surface to smash pound and finesse the concrete creating your own personal masterpiece right before your eyes.

Mark came highly recommended by a builder in the north Lake Tahoe area. He designed and built a fantastic set of stairs and landings up to our new house in Olympic (Squaw) Valley. He is an artist and perfectionist. He knows the technical aspects of the right concrete mix, and is an artist implementing his designs. He was very responsive to our requests. Our work is complete just three weeks after our first contact with him. He and his entire crew are extremely friendly and a dream to work with. We couldn't be happier. We selected Colossal concrete from six different bidders for our project. We based our decision on the company that we felt would provide the best balance of value and quality. It was obvious from the outset and continued through completion of the project the level of quality and workmanship Colossal Concrete places in their projects. What was also refreshing was the transparency regarding what cost we would be directly responsible for and what was included in their proposal. I highly recommend Colossal concrete and won't hesitate to use them again for future projects.

Fantastic work. A few key notes.
1) I looked for a concrete contractor in South Lake Tahoe for several months. No serious responses from local construction companies in my area. When I found Mark, we agreed on price and he showed up 2 days later, finished the job well in 2 days. He traveled several hours to do the job as well.
2) From what we discussed initially, Mark came out and was super flexible and made some solid recommendations which I accepted. He didn't charge anything extra for those items.
3) After Mark started, I finally got a response from a local company. One of the notes on Mark

We highly recommend Colossal Concrete Top Quality Craftmanship. He did an outstanding job on design and production of our driveway pavers. We were amazed how Mark was able to design exactly what we try to convey. He said it would be "magical" it was that and more. We love the design and color. Mark and his team are professional, very polite, and respectful. Mark made sure the driveway will withstand South Lake Tahoe winters. Colossal Concrete solved several safety and convenience problems for us. They remodeled our uneven cement stairs, replaced and reinforced the damaged driveway, and packed with fill the low spots in our gravel parking area.
If we had more work to do, we would hire them again. We highly recommend them to our friends and others

He refused to carry out his own contract. He reviewed the plans on file with the city; he came out to the property twice for measurements; I accepted his bid of approximately $5000.00; he insisted that I sign his contract and required that I give him a check as a down payment. After I did everything he demanded, he called and said he wanted to double the price to $10,000.00 to do the job and claimed he did not understand what the job entailed and he wanted me to hire him for additional work for another $10,000.00. So either he doesn't know how to read plans, doesn't know how to measure

Mark and his side kick did amazing jobs on the work we had them do. They saw our vision and made it better. We had a sidewalk on one side of the house and another sidewalk/stairs on the longer side. The job these guys did exceeded out expectations. I will always hire these guys for all of our work. Thank you so much
