The Westmoreland Fair celebrates 67 years in 2022; in 1954 a group of local farmers and businessmen with an interest and passion for agriculture in Westmoreland County established and incorporated the Westmoreland Agricultural Fair and Recreation Association. In the very beginning of the Westmoreland Agricultural Fair and Recreation Association, the Fair organized by the Association was held at Idlewild Park, located in Ligonier, Pennsylvania.
At that time the Fair lasted only three days and was attended primarily by 4-H exhibitors, their families and by people who just happened to be attending the amusement park. By 1957 there was a need to grow and the Fair's charter members purchased a 170 acre farm near the village of Mutual. That first year, organizers built a veritable tent city to accommodate all the exhibits and animals.

I could not believe everywhere ran out of water by 3 pm n the one place that had some left marked the water up to $3 instead of $2 like before. There is never enough places to sit by the rides n nothing under cover to get out of the sun for 10 minutes. Not near as many animals penned which is a good thing I guess. It was okay.

The fair was fun the admission price was reasonable. the ride price was reasonable. the food prices were comparable with other events but the prices for games were OUTRAGEOUS. to pick a duck was $5. my children had five dollars to spend and they could only do ONE game. what a rip off. i know most carnival games are hard to win & pricey but this was way way over the top. Poor little kids to take advantage of them like that

Fun family and kid friendly atmosphere. So many different things to see. All the animals are amazing! We saw the rodeo for the first time and it was well worth it. The rides are better than any fair i've ever been to! I have never actually been to a fair that has bumper cars. If you do drink a lot I would suggest bringing a cooler and keeping it in the car, drinks can get expensive. We had an amazing time and plan on going back every year!
