Northern Manufacturing is a precision fabricator of custom sheet metal parts and assemblies. Northern specializes in precision stainless steel fabrications including all stainless steel alloys. You will find Northern produced parts in numerous applications and industries throughout the world. When J.D. Smith purchased the company in 1975, Northern only had 8 employees and $250,000 in revenue.
We have since grown substantially, utilizing our experience, value added engineering services, and advanced technology to develop solid customer relationships. Jim Smith was awarded the US Department of Defense CAP Award for Excellent Quality Assurance. The government contract was a key project in the early years of Northern's growth.

Northern offers you the opportunity to actively participate in our fast-paced environment. We are always looking for bright, talented, and motivated individuals. Our training / mentorship program will train new or inexperienced welders the skills they need to MIG and TIG weld, and read bluepints and begin a career in fabrication.
The engineering team at Northern specializes in taking customer designs and finding a new way to make a project utilizing our unique and advanced technology. This process often allow us to eliminate parts, welding and machining which can both lead to a savings in cost and improvement in quality. 3D modeling enables many things: programming machines, creating shop routing, and QC check our drawings with customer prints.
Northern can cut parts up to 80 inches wide and 20 feet long. This allows you to combine multiple parts into one, and eliminate costly welding operations. Large storage towers hold tons of sheet metal waiting for processing. This keeps the laser cutting as close to 100% of the time as possible, and reduces lead times.
The Tube Laser gives designers freedom to easily put any cutout shape into pipe and tubing. Besides eliminating the old drill and saw, this new technology allows for error proof constructing techniques that speed production and reduce cost. Shapes that fit inside a 10 diameter circle up to 30' long can be processed on this massive machine.
The 5-Axis laser cutting center allows us to think outside the box. We can add holes or cutout features to a welded assembly and eliminate expensive machining operations. It can also process large pipe or tube that doesn't fit into the tube laser's work envelope. 5-Axis laser welding is a cost effective way to replace drilling or milling operations, especially on large components with tight tolerances.
