Entrepreneur and Self-Help borrower Darnella Warthen talks about growing her successful child care business, A New Beginning Child Care Services. We work hand-in-hand with our partners, borrowers and members to expand economic opportunity for all. From free financial counseling to easy online banking options to personalized loan underwriting, we're here for you.

Since 1980, we've provided $9.1 billion in financing to small businesses, community projects, families and individuals. Our mission is creating and protecting ownership and economic opportunity for all, especially people of color, women, rural residents and low-wealth families and communities.
Services
We create and protect ownership and economic opportunity for all, especially people of color, women, rural residents and low-wealth families and communities. Self-Help is a family of two credit unions, a nonprofit loan fund, and an advocacy group. We are also a designated community development financial institution (CDFI).
We are a family of member-owned, mission-driven credit unions, a nonprofit loan fund, and a policy advocacy organization. We work every day to expand ownership and economic opportunities for all. The mission is large, but we believe that much of it is accomplished by small acts: a member's first bank account.
When the Center for Community Self-Help (Self-Help) started in 1980, we believed that ownership was the best way for families to build wealth and financial security and for our society to create strong, vibrant communities. Our experience over the past 40 years has only reinforced that belief. Initially we helped employees in rural NC form worker-owned cooperatives and gain ownership of local mills that were being shut down.

Great venue in the centre of Nottingham - informal and welcoming. Support for people starting peer-support/self help groups. Practical resources and somewhere to meet!
