Good Samaritan was founded by a group of community leaders concerned about the high number of uninsured adults in our area. While based out of Holy Family Episcopal Church, the committee included people from all over the county and from different faith communities. Good Samaritan was incorporated in 2000 and received non-profit status in 2001.
Initially modeled after the Volunteers in Medicine clinic in Hilton Head, SC, Good Samaritan was a free clinic almost completely staffed by volunteers. Since opening, over 1000 community members have volunteered. The first employee, an Executive Director, was hired in 2004. Eventually, a part-time development director and a part-time nurse practitioner were added.

Good Sam and everyone I have seen or helped me has been a blessing I can't describe. Patti Shelby is an angel. Dr. Owens and sweet Alyssa I have seen once and are very genuine and concerned about my issues and very willing to help me. I am so thankful for everyone that dedicated their time to people like me.

This place made my grandma 10x worse. We knew she was gonna die but they made the process much faster. She received no wound care, no dental hygiene assistance, refused to give her a straw so she became extremely dehydrated and they restricted her diet without consulting her doctor. We pulled her out and that night she died and suffered for a week before her death due to the hands of Good Sam. They placed her in a back room to die alone.

There are so many words that I can describe Good Sam in Canton, I've worked at a couple of facilities in my area I've even worked at a Good Sam and Sioux falls but the one in Canton made me feel like home it was different I've never felt that way about any facility so many facilities talk about Hope and love and God and Grace they all preached it but never showed it Good Sam. In Canton shows it more than they preach thats different as well I love working there it's an amazing place everybody's so friendly and it definitely shows and feels like great place when you have residents family members

Management is more than poor. Hire in help from other company to replace good hard working local help that care for their residents. They some how have a 5 star facility rating, because they know when state will be in so they can clean up all the problems that linger through the facility between state inspections. Wouldn't trust this place to take care of my dog while I'm on vacation let alone put a love one in their "care"
