Welcome to Rankin Behavioral Health, a clinical psychology practice in Northern Virginia. We provide individual psychotherapy, DBT Programs (Group and Individual DBT), parenting work, and individual child IQ testing. We serve adults, teenagers, children, and families. Having a warm, trusting therapy relationship is a vital component of therapy.

Treatment starts with proper assessment of difficulties to find the right solutions. Measurement of symptoms throughout therapy assesses progress. We use evidence-based Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) tailored to the particular blocks in your life. We do one component of psychological assessment: IQ testing for children.
Services
STANDARD/COMPREHENSIVE DBT is a cognitive-behavioral treatment that works. Clinical research has shown the effectiveness of Comprehensive or Standard DBT for a wide range of problems including impulsive & harmful behaviors, suicidality, depression, bipolar disorder, eating disorders, addictions, ADHD, traumatic stress, and interpersonal difficulties.
Therapy involves structured cognitive-behavioral techniques developed Marsha Linehan, PhD's Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and other Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) methods. DBT techniques include mindfulness, interpersonal skills, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, understanding dialectics, and using a behavioral framework.
Creative and play-based activities are integrated into learning emotional and social skills to keep therapy engaging and fun. Kids have therapy "homework" to practice these skills between sessions in their every day lives. A family systems approach is included such that some parenting work with and support of parents is key to treatment.
Rankin BH offers IQ testing for the purpose of independent school admission and Advanced Academic Programs (AAP) admission. We administer the Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence - Fourth Edition (WPPSI-IV) for ages 3 to 7. This test is often required for independent school admissions in Pre-K or Kindergarten.
