On LTL Shipments, freight carriers offer limited liability coverage on every shipment. The carriers pay out a dollar amount per pound depending on the freight class and commodity of the shipment. The delivery receipt must include notice of any loss or damages to receive full claim amount.
It is imperative that the company arranging the freight (the shipper) explains to the receiver what to expect, especially for customers who are not familiar with receiving freight.If completely damaged, freight should be refused. If it is partially received or received partially damaged, the delivery receipt must indicate so by notating the exact loss or damage of the shipment.
