Services
Glennallen isn't just the next stop on your wild Alaskan adventure. It has a special place in the history of our great state. Like the salmon, birds and namesake caribou that migrate through the region, gold seekers came and went from the area in 1898. As a major population center with roads heading in every direction, Glennallen is a great place to stay and explore.
A perfect place for a bite to eat, The Caribou Grill serves American and Italian dishes that's great for families. Our signature copper ceiling casts a warm glow as you eat breakfast, lunch and dinner - and harks back to the days when copper was king in this part of Alaska. Don't forget to browse our delicious selection of after-dinner treats following a hard day of exploring.
The Caribou Hotel & Restaurant is located in Glennallen, Alaska. At the intersection of Glenn and Richardson Highways, Glennallen is a modest town that serves as a gateway to Wrangell-St. Elias National Park - the largest national park in America. This major road crossing is where you'll find banks, grocery stores, doctors and mechanics - and a hub of activities throughout the enchanting Copper River Valley.
As with most places in Alaska, the best way to get to Glennallen is by car. It's easy to get from Anchorage to the Caribou Hotel & Restaurant, but feel free to give us a call if you need directions. Enjoy the drive to Glennallen through the Matanuska Valley, and be sure to enjoy stunning views of the Matanuska Glacier!
When you have cabin fever, step outside and into the excitement. Enjoy king and red salmon fishing, airplane sightseeing and jet boating, berry picking and hiking, or hunting and wildlife viewing. Or perhaps you'd prefer to visit the historic communities of McCarthy and Kennicott, site of the richest copper strike in history.

Great to see the restaurant remodeled and open again.
Excellemt food and service.
For truck drivers in Alaska, there isn't that many places with room to park and to get a decent meal "plus" they have SHOWERS available in the Hotel.

Wonderful staff! It was our last night in Alaska & had not yet seen the Aurora Borealis. My husband asked if they would would wake us if it appeared & they did. I got to see my 1st real life northern lights because of their kindness. Angel even sent me a photo of me standing mesmerized. I recommend this motel if you're in the area!

The only good thing to say about this place was that the room was clean. The stained bathtub and sink were gross. The bathtub wouldn't drain properly and asking the front desk to have that looked at did not get us anywhere. Unfortunately we were stuck in rural Alaska without many alternatives. Place is run down. The front desk seemed pleasant enough but did not actually accomplish anything if things went bad.

Basic roadside hotel. Be warned that the water stinks. It's great if you like sulfur. They could at least put pillow covers on the pillows (basic hygiene practice).

It's clean enough. The west side rooms need AC on hot summer days or they at least need extension cord so that the fan can be placed in the window. The water in the whole area has a nasty Sulphur smell so that it is like showering in a hot springs. Options are definitely limited in the area and it seems like the owners know it and don't put much money into maintenance or refurbishing because of it.

I am only giving it a second star because the manager was helpful the next morning.

The front desk lady who checked us in however was incredibly rude and our hotel room was SO gross (nasty grease-looking stains on pillow case, hair in bed, chunk of soap left on bathroom floor, some sort of spaghetti-looking sauce all over the chair (which was a material that could have easily been wiped clean)...the list goes on! My teenage daughter was SO disgusted, she refused to lay on the bed with any part of her body. I had to buy blankets at the gas station gift shop to lay down on the beds and we all slept

Filthy. I’ve traveled all over the world, including many third world countries, and I have never stayed in such a filthy room. Hair all over the shower, trash on the floor, dirty towels and walls, and dirty underwear from the previous guest. They made the beds.. that was it. I’m not sure the sheets were clean because I didn’t dare get underneath the blanket… I didn’t want to touch anything or allow my children to touch anything in that room. If you’re considering staying here… trust me… just push through and drive to your final destination. The room was almost $200. I wouldn’t

The night host was nice and helpful and the fact that they actually had someone on duty for us to get a room around midnight was definitely a plus. Overall the place looked nice, the beds are standard hotel fare, and there was a decent selection of snacks and other items you might need to buy behind the counter. The shower was clearly old with patched sections in the tub, a stained shower head, and the bathroom door handle was loose enough that it wouldn't latch closed, but I didn't run out of the hot water at least. Also only had a single towel in a double room.

I stayed here at the caribou hotel, staff was awesome, Erin at front desk went above and beyond to be helpful. The manager James was very accommodating on needs and service there. Seth was always making sure the room was clean and tidy and I had always cleaned. So thank you for the great service. I stayed here for over 10 months . Thank you again. Would definitely stay again

The manager asked my wife to ask me to update my review. So here goes:

I was finally issued a refund for their screw up. However, this refund was given under protest from the manager who still doesn't understand why he should refund me for not staying the nights at the hotel my card was charged for. They stole my money and almost refused to refund.

But they did refund. And I gave them another star.

The rooms are one thing in their own. Quite and clean and had a fan for our warm summer stay. That's all I needed.

Glennallen is in the middle of nowhere and the Caribou provided us with a clean, simple but spacious room. The staff are very friendly and we felt as if we were seeing a bit of real Alaska, which was the complete opposite of Denali. If you expect too much you may be disappointed but for a good nights sleep in remodeled rooms with a traditional feel then we think the place represents good value.
