Making the decision to begin therapy or nutritional counseling is not an easy one. But it can be one of the best decisions you can make to empower yourself & move beyond unresolved issues or to help find the right path to take. Psychotherapy is a collaborative approach between a therapist and client.

As a trained clinical social worker in the mental health field, I work with children ages four and up, tweens, teens, adults, and families in a private practice mental health setting, located in the the greater Atlanta area. My job is to: assess and diagnose the problem, educate you about your diagnosis, connect you to other resources if necessary, and to help increase your sense of well-being.
An eating disorder is a very complex and complicated disorder. We now know that eating disorders involve biological, psychological, social and interpersonal conditions. Besides individual therapy and seeing a nutritionist, involving the family can be one of the most important components of treatment of eating disorders, especially in children, teens, and young adults.
Parenting is definitely rewarding and filled with lots of positives but parenting can also be one of the most difficult and time-consuming things in your life. Besides caring for an infant or child, parents are also the main teachers for their children. Kids learn basic life skills, develop social skills, and appropriate behaviors from their parents or main caregiver.
Women's issues cover a wide-range of topics in the field of psychotherapy. They also have some different health care needs than do men, approach relationships and developmental tasks differently, and often struggle with self-esteem, body image, and sexuality concerns. Problems with an addiction including: substance abuse, gaming, compulsive shopping, and compulsive overeating.
Problems with addiction and addictive behaviors can reek havoc on your life. Both have to do with genetics, brain wiring and being unable to stop a certain pattern, substance, or behavior. What's the difference between a "substance addiction" and a "behavior addiction?" For starters, the brain can't tell the difference between the two.

Sharon provided supervision for my LCSW. I appreciated her open conversational style, and highly benefitted from her extensive experience as a psychotherapist having worked with a broad range of clients. Her experience with eating disorders was especially helpful as I was working in the ED field, and did not have an LCSW available for supervision.
Sharon kept accurate records of our supervision sessions and promptly submitted the needed material for my clinical license application.

My daughter have always had eating disorder, and recently we decided to try out psychotherapy to help her, although we were hesitant at first. But as soon as we came in, we were already made to feel welcome. My daughter has been coming to appointments regularly and I can already see some improvement with her eating habits, as well as her confidence. Thank you so much.

As a coach for the family members of those with eating disorders I'm thrilled to personally know Sharon Peterson, LCSW, CEDS of Psychotherapy Services of Atlanta. When I have clients in Atlanta who need a therapist for themselves, their loved one with an eating disorder or their family, Sharon is at the top of my list!
Sharon is not only honest, ethical, kind and committed to her clients, she knows eating disorders well and is regularly at our professional conferences getting continuing education.
Her passion for this field is admirable and I know she takes great care with her clients. I'm so

If you are in need of clinical supervision, look elsewhere. She does not keep accurate records of hours accumulated and takes things deeply personal when you attempt to go to another supervisor. She held onto my notes for nearly a month and I had to send 10+ emails to get them from her. She comes across as kind, but turns vindictive quickly when she sees a client move to a different therapist more congruent with their goals. Most sessions with her included her texting with other clients, openly yawning, and talking in a non-productive or educational way about other patients. I got stood up twice

It's hard finding a therapist whom you are comfortable with, but Dr. Peterson is very professional, and kind at the same time. From the moment you enter their office, you will immediately feel welcome. I've been coming here for a while and it really helps with my depression, having lost my brother and my mother on the same year. Thank you.
